Chapter 5 - Little Angel

The secretary looked troubled. "That's really what reception said…"

Victor Morgan frowned. "Let them come up."

Soon, the secretary came up with two little kids in tow.

When Victor looked up, he saw that the boy in front was indeed his son— but who was that cute, soft little girl behind him?

"What, you know it's time to come home now?"

Victor set down his pen, looking at Zola with a very cold expression.

Zola also kept her little face stiff, giving him a cool stare. "Nope. I'm really happy at my mom's place. I don't wanna go back to where that evil woman is!"

Victor's eyes turned a bit cold. "Zola Morgan, watch your language. The woman at home is your real mom."

"She's not!" Zola retorted fiercely. "She looks at me like she's not my mom at all. She hates me— she wants me dead!"

"Zola Morgan!" Victor's voice got heavier, and a trace of anger crossed his face.

He didn't like that woman either, but he didn't want his own son to be known as someone who didn't recognize his mom.

Zola looked utterly disappointed. "Why won't you just believe what I'm saying?"

Seeing his son's dejected look, Victor couldn't help but feel a pang inside.

It wasn't that he didn't believe Zola— but the paternity test results were right there. That was an undeniable fact.

"Um… sorry to butt in… Zola, you have a mom?!" Chloe Warner had been listening, completely lost, and now planted her hands on her hips, frowning at Zola.

Zola turned his head to the side, insisting, "I don't!"

Chloe went straight for Victor, tilting her head and asking, "Handsome uncle, do you have a wife?"

Her big, black-and-white eyes were wide open, and she was wearing a little white dress— she looked just like a little angel.

Victor's expression actually softened against his will. "No, I don't."

"Great!"

Chloe instantly beamed, skipping around the desk and leaping right into Victor's arms: "Handsome uncle, can you be my daddy? My mommy is really beautiful and awesome!"

Victor found himself catching the tiny girl instinctively, and feeling that soft, light bundle in his arms, for a moment, he didn't know how to respond.

Strangely, it felt like something inside him caved in, turning sour and soft at the same time.

"Who's your mommy?"

Chloe's face was full of pride and excitement: "My mama saved Zola yesterday!"

Her again?

Victor's look turned cool.

He'd already investigated last night. Even though the woman's identity was hidden deep, he'd dug it out with the national gene database.

She turned out to be Luna Warner's half-sister!

Rumor had it she'd gotten pregnant out of wedlock five years ago, scandalized, and committed suicide in an alley.

But for some reason, even though she was supposedly dead, here she was, alive— and the strangeness of it all made Victor wary.

He was already annoyed that his son kept calling that woman "mom," and now her daughter wanted him to marry her mom?

Who did she think Victor Morgan was?

Looks like Vera Warner and Luna Warner are birds of a feather— gold diggers, both using their kids to plot and scheme!

Victor opened his mouth to say something, but when he saw the little girl's radiant smile, he swallowed his words.

Forget it— she's just a kid who wants a dad.

But when he sees that woman, he's definitely going to give her a lesson!

Half an hour later, in the Morgan Group's cafeteria.

Many employees kept sneaking glances at the trio sitting in the middle— one big, two small.

The news was spreading fast in the employee chat.

"Oh my God, I saw the boss bringing his own son and daughter to the cafeteria for lunch!"

"Daughter? I thought the boss only had a son?"

"But that little girl keeps calling the boss 'dad'!"

...

Victor looked at the little girl in front of him, who called him "daddy" with every bite, and felt a headache coming on.

He just couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.

This little girl kept calling him "daddy" in front of everyone, and he couldn't even deny it.

But seeing Chloe's pure and lively smile, Victor couldn't help wondering if he was overthinking things.

"Daddy, eat this."

Chloe picked up some food and put it in Victor's plate, flashing him a sweet smile.

The scene was so warm and cozy that Victor's face eased, a rare softness appearing in his features.

Regretfully, he glanced at Zola, who kept his face stony and cold. Victor even found himself wishing Chloe really was his daughter.

The three of them were eating happily when, suddenly, a furious voice sounded behind them—

"Chloe Warner!"

The chopsticks in Chloe's hand dropped her food onto the table with a plop. Panic all over her face, she dove into Victor's arms. "Daddy, save me!"

Vera Warner stormed over, grabbing Chloe and trying to pull her out.

Victor frowned at her rough movements, reaching over to push Vera's hand away, shielding Chloe behind him. "Easy!"

Vera: "..."

Did she see that right?

Before she could react, Zola also hopped down, hugging her leg and shouting happily, "Mommy, you're here!"

Victor: "?"

Vera: "?"

Something seemed… off here?

Vera gave Victor a half-amused, half-annoyed look. "Mr. Morgan, the one in your arms seems to be my daughter?"

With that, she scooped Zola back. "See? This one's your son."

Victor silently let go of Chloe Warner.

Vera was just about to grab Chloe and settle the score when, suddenly, Zola ran over again and hugged her leg tight.

Vera was stepping forward, but with that unexpected weight, she stumbled and pitched forward, completely out of control!

"Ah!"

Vera watched in horror as the ground rushed up to her face, a scream torn from her lips.

But—

Sight blurring, she found herself pulled into a hard, solid embrace.

In that instant, the crisp, cool scent of grass and woods filled her nose— chilling but with a hint of refinement, just like Victor Morgan himself.

Vera's heart skipped a beat of confusion.

This scent… why does it feel so familiar?

"Miss Warner, you've been in my arms for a whole minute. Planning to stay much longer?"

Victor looked down at the woman in his arms with impatience, sarcasm flickering in his eyes.

Knew it— making a move already, can't wait to throw yourself at me, huh!

Vera snapped back to reality and quickly pulled away.

The two little imps watching covered their mouths in excitement, eyes sparkling with gossip. If they could, they'd marry the two adults off right then and there.

Vera shot a warning look at Chloe, who was looking at her with gossipy eyes, and forced a smile. "Ha… sorry, I slipped."

Victor elegantly picked up a napkin and wiped his hands, lips curling into a cold smile. "Hope next time you don't 'slip' in front of the kids, Miss Warner— don't want to set a bad example."

What?

Bad example, my ass!

What the hell does this bastard mean!
