ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!
RAT-A-TAT-TAT!
After the convoy advanced another hundred meters or so, it finally ran into the oncoming zombies. The sounds of gunfire and cannons erupted.
From his position at the rear of the convoy, Lin Xinghai couldn't see what was happening at the very front, but he could see streaks of blue light shooting out.
Wherever this blue light passed, it instantly pierced through everything in its path, whether it was zombies, houses, or rocks.
The power of the Electromagnetic Railguns was simply terrifying. When using this weapon against zombies, there was no need to aim for their heads at all.
As long as a projectile hit a zombie's body, the immense kinetic energy would tear it to shreds. Even if its head remained intact, there was no way it could survive.
This greatly lowered the requirement for shooting accuracy.
Moreover, besides their immense power, the fire rate of the Electromagnetic Railguns wasn't much worse than a Heavy Machine Gun's.
With their coordinated crossfire, no matter how many zombies charged from the front, they were all cut down.
At this moment, it wasn't just the two multi-purpose off-road vehicles at the vanguard unleashing their might. The firepower from the members of Team Two and Team Three was also exceptionally terrifying.
In addition to attacking with their Tearing Rifles, they had also brought their Hand Cannons into play. Every projectile fired was accompanied by a deafening roar.
This type of area-of-effect attack could often take out two or three zombies at once.
Under the suppression of such intense firepower, the zombies trying to attack from the sides had no openings. It was incredibly difficult for them to even get within 30 meters of the convoy.
As for their Squad One, their task of guarding the rear was the easiest, and it was unlikely any problems would arise in the short term.
Just like that, the convoy advanced rapidly toward the city center.
"Old Luo, at our current speed, about how long until we reach the destination?" Lin Xinghai was in a bad mood because he couldn't collect any Blood Qi Power, so his form of address reverted.
Roger didn't even have the energy to complain about the name. "Following the planned route, we should reach the city center in about half an hour."
After speaking, he patted the Tearing Rifle in his hands. "So you should understand how tight our time is. Next, I'll give you a careful demonstration, and then you'll start practicing. Any questions?"
"No problem!" Lin Xinghai immediately shelved his resentment over not being able to collect Blood Qi Power and got serious.
After all, to survive in the apocalypse, good marksmanship was essential.
"Good. Then I'll start with the simplest thing: reloading."
"Press this button on the gun's body, and the magazine will pop out automatically. The ammo box is under the seat—it's this little black box here."
"The ammo box has an auto-loading function. Just snap the magazine into this slot and press the button, and it will load automatically."
"A full magazine holds 50 rounds. During a firefight, you need to keep a mental count of how many bullets are left in the firearm. When you're down to about one-third, you need to find an opportunity to reload."
"Alright, next I'll teach you the shooting stance. The way I'm holding the gun now is the standard stance. This is the sight. You have two options: iron sights and optical sights."
"The latter is easier to get the hang of, but I suggest you choose the former. That's the faster way to develop a feel for it. A lot of the time, you won't have time to aim; you'll have to fire from the hip. That's when your feel for the weapon becomes crucial."
Roger was seriously explaining the details and things to watch out for, and Lin Xinghai was listening attentively. However, the entire process lasted only a short three minutes.
"Alright, I've taught you everything I need to. Any other questions?" Roger asked.
'This three-minute, force-fed lesson is the biggest problem,' Lin Xinghai complained internally. He had never heard of such an unreliable teaching method.
However, before he could say anything, the system spoke up first.
"Ding! You have mastered Basic Level Shooting Skill!"
'What! Is the system this awesome? It even has an auto-learn feature.' Lin Xinghai was excited, but simply said that he had no more questions.
A look of astonishment crossed Roger's face. 'Do young people these days learn this fast?'
But he didn't say anything. After a nod, he picked up his Tearing Rifle, chose a firing port, and started attacking the zombies to the rear.
As for Lin Xinghai, he hurriedly pulled up his system panel.
Host: Lin Xinghai
Physique: 24 points
Power: 20 points
Speed: 29 points
Blood Qi Power: 63 points
Genetic Optimization Level: 29%+
Basic Level Shooting Skill: Proficiency 1%+
Sure enough, Basic Level Shooting Skill had been added to his system panel. However, seeing the "Proficiency 1%+" next to it diminished more than half of his excitement.
He tapped the "+" sign, and a notification box immediately popped up.
"Ding! Consume 1 point of Blood Qi Power to upgrade?"
'Damn it! It's this same old trick again.' Lin Xinghai almost couldn't stop himself from cursing out loud. And here he was, thinking the system had grown a conscience this time!
However, no matter how much of a rip-off it was, it was still a shortcut to increasing his strength, so he tapped it anyway.
Instantly, Lin Xinghai felt a stream of information appear in his mind. It was everything Roger had told him in those three minutes.
It was just that when Roger had been speaking, everything sounded hazy to him. But now, as the system fed him this information, it was like a sudden moment of enlightenment; he instantly understood the meaning of every sentence.
He opened his system panel again and glanced at it, a look of slight shock on his face.
Basic Level Shooting Skill: Proficiency 10%+
'This is a pretty big increase!' Lin Xinghai was pleasantly surprised.
To test just how much 10% proficiency amounted to, he moved to the firing port next to him, raised his gun, and took aim.
This was the series of motions Roger had demonstrated while he was explaining.
Now, as if he knew them by heart, he mimicked them with ease. Every movement was standard, natural, and fluid.
Lin Xinghai aimed at a zombie 50 meters away.
He gently squeezed the trigger.
BANG!
The shot rang out, but the zombie continued its frantic charge toward the convoy.
"Ugh! I missed." Lin Xinghai's mood soured instantly.
His shot had hit the wall two meters to the zombie's right.
A two-meter miss. That seemed... a bit wide.
What Lin Xinghai didn't notice, however, was that Roger, in the spot next to him, had watched him fire and now had a strange look on his face.
After slightly readjusting his mindset, Lin Xinghai aimed and fired again.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
He fired three consecutive shots this time, but still didn't land a single hit. The closest shot was a full meter off, while the furthest was more than three meters away.
"This..." Lin Xinghai was a little embarrassed. He knew that every bullet was expensive, and with his current marksmanship, he probably couldn't hit that zombie even if he emptied an entire magazine.
He wanted to find a closer target, but he found that the other team members were all scrambling to kill the nearby ones. There were none left for him.
'Looks like they're forcing me to cheat!'

Right now, all the stats are pretty bad, especially collections and recommendation votes. Those two most important metrics are really low.
