Everything took time to be tried and tested, allowing progress to be made.
Not everyone was suited to one path, and there would always be a need for different approaches and flexibility when dealing with those things.
If there happened to be something that truly went against what everyone stood for and would do greater harm than good, then that was usually the time for everyone to come together to stop or resolve it.
Admiring a famous figure and taking inspiration from them was not wrong.
It was not wrong to see what they had achieved so far and to use that to inspire their own actions going forward.
It just depended on how they perceived it all and how they used it.
The intentions of others were not always so easy to see through, especially when it came to understanding the minds of geniuses like Vegapunk.
Many scientists looked up to him, but they did not understand him as a man or the type of circumstances he had to live with that resulted in a lot of the decisions he had made.
He worked under the World Government and did a lot for the Marines, which influenced a lot of what he had done over the years.
Some of those influences had guided him toward developing things that were not what he truly wanted to pursue, but he needed to do it if he wanted to keep what he had and continue with what he wished to pursue.
Weapons of war and destruction were not what he had been aiming for, but he still made them, even if the methods he had to use were somewhat questionable.
Even if Vegapunk did not wish to cross certain moral lines, he had to go through with it if it was an order from above.
No matter how much he protested, he could not go against such power as was wielded by the World Government.
Most of his support came from them, and the very island he had built Egghead Island on had been the result of what had been provided to him.
That was why he was forced to cross yet another line that was against his beliefs when it came to carrying out what had been done to Kuma.
Not even Alyssia knew the full story of what happened, but she was able to guess what kind of pressure Vegapunk was put under to make him have to go through with such a thing.
From what Alyssia had seen and heard of Vegapunk, he was more like a genius humanitarian who strived to make the lives of others safer and easier.
He would not pursue a path that would be solely for warfare or would be considered as paths that would lead toward destruction, unless he was naive enough not to know how such things could be exploited and used to harm, when they were originally made with the intent to do good.
What everyone else saw was what was made public, and there were many who believed that Vegapunk had chosen to take such paths himself and that he truly believed in them.
That kind of thinking could be quite dangerous, especially when it was someone who looked up to him a lot and wished to follow his example, even if it meant going down a dangerous path themselves.
Dr Anders was busy in his lab with his younger assistant as they were finishing their work.
Dr Anders stopped what he was doing and let out a sigh of relief. "I finally achieved it. Now for the installation."
The younger assistant looked over for a moment and asked. "Teacher... are you certain? Shouldn't we ask for approval for testing first?"
Dr Anders shook his head in response. "No way those fools will let that happen. They talk about Creation and whatnot, but all I see is a bunch of fools who stand in the way of progress and innovation. I know this will work, so hurry and prepare what is needed.
If they are not willing to let this great invention come to life, then I am more than willing to be the one to use it to show those fools how very wrong they are."
The younger assistant looked uncertain but followed his orders. "Yes, Teacher..."
Time passed within the laboratory as Dr Anders was readied for surgery and modification as his new mechanical eye was put in, replacing the old one.
He was in a state of sleep as the drugs were keeping him sedated during the whole process until it had been completed.
The younger assistant had carried out the steps needed to install it without fail, which caused him to feel a little relieved.
He turned his back on the man who had continued to sleep at the table, and he continued with his work nearby.
Some noise came from behind him, which seemed to be Dr Anders waking up, so he turned around. "Dr Anders? What are you doing up already?"
All that he saw next caused him to become shocked and fearful, as he did not know how to process the situation.
Dr Anders showed no emotion as he stood there, but there was a red flash in his mechanical eye.
It kept flashing like a warning sign, and the mouth of Dr Anders opened. "Threat detected."
The mechanical eye had analysed the person in front of Dr Anders and locked onto the tool that had been raised protectively in front of the frightened assistant.
That very action was perceived as a threat, just as his holding something that could be used as a weapon had been seen the same way.
The combat mode took over automatically, robbing Dr Anders of the control he once had over his body in that moment.
His body moved under the control of the directives of the new mechanical implant, like a switch had been flipped, causing him to not be the one in control over his actions and everything he did was directed by the response that was programmed into the implant.
The threat needed to be dealt with. "Stop... No closer... Please... I will be forced to..."
The threat needed to be stopped. "Please..."
The threat was his very own student and assistant, but he had lost control. "Urk..."
There was no stopping him as he soon regained control over his body.
The corpse of the assistant was lying beneath him in a pool of blood, completely lifeless.
Signs of a struggle were shown in the surroundings of the laboratory where he had attacked, and the assistant tried to protect themselves.
