"Feeling better? You know school resumes from tomorrow, right?" He asked, handing me the tabs of vitamins.
I nodded, swallowing the tabs with water. "I am fine. I know work starts tomorrow." I said and immediately realized I hadn't told him about the discussion with Grandpa.
He gazed at me in concern. His shook his head slowly and pulled the blanket up my chest. "It's all my fault. I should have just let you rest yesterday."
I smiled, handing him the glass of water. "It feels great to be pampered at least. Breakfast in bed and lot of attention."
He seemed to loosen up a little as he smiled softly. "Silly, you can get those even if you are not sick."
I squared my shoulders.
He stood up and grabbed his coat. "Take a nap. I can handle with the lawyer. It's just statement. I am sure I can do it alone. I just hope my statement and my therapist would be enough evidence to punish him." He smiled, trying to shake off his nervousness.
"Hey, don't think like that. I am sure he will be punished." I would make sure of it.
He shrugged his shoulders.
I took a moment to ask my question, knowing well we had been fighting over it the whole day. "Want me to come with you?" I asked quietly, prepared to be yelled at.
His face turned rigid. "As much as I would like it but no. For the last time, Kwan. Please don't make me repeat myself again. Take rest. I can handle it."
I exhaled. "Fine. Who you going with?"
"Zeal."
I clenched my jaw. "Okay."
"Be a good boy and stop being jealous. I will be back soon."
I nodded, staring ahead. "Okay."
He shook his head, reached to kiss my head and walked out the door. I stared ahead on the wall, examining my options. I could either rest or follow after them. I chose the latter because trust was important and even though I was jealous, I was not supposed to break Zeal's nose. I closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths to calm myself up.
I grabbed my phone and dialed a number.
"Good evening Kwan. You on your way?" Stella greeted cheerfully.
"Um Kao is going with a friend. I can't make it. But hey, what type of evidence is required to extend years of punishment?" I asked, biting my lips.
"Well, depends on the crimes he committed."
"Hmm. Do you think the domestic violence crime would be enough to sent him for ten years or more?"
"Depends on the grave damage he has done."
I clenched my jaw in annoyance. "See Stella, I know a little law by myself and I don't think Kao's and his therapist's statement would be enough. And also we don't have any physical proof about their statement. There is another thing we can sue him for. He destroyed property and attempted kidnapping. Police found duct tape and ropes at Kao's place which was left by Piere. Proof? Just run fingerprints. And...there is something else. He is addicted to narcotics. I will work on finding proof so you just do your work and make sure he receives the longest sentence, okay?"
She sighed at the other end. "You seem to have some kind of personal enmity with this guy."
"I do. He hurt my boy and nobody hurts my boy."
"Y-your boy? You m-mean your boyfriend?" She stammered, clearly surprised.
"Yes, my boyfriend. So please make sure this Piere guy is punished, okay?"
"S-sure."
"Thanks." I hanged up.
I took a deep breath and dialed another number.
"Lian here."
"Detective Lian, what's the progress?" I asked, rubbing my temple. My head was throbbing.
"Good. I just dug into this guy and found he has a lot of criminal offense. He doesn't only buy narcotics. He sells them too. He is addicted to gambling and has a long list of weird fetishes. I found witnesses in the clubs he visits. They agreed to testify. He burnt some of them with cigarettes and they are pissed. We don't have any footage of him selling or buying narcotics but we do have victims he forced to have a taste. And now we are digging more and I think he must be convicted of rape too. I will let you know once we are sure."
I sighed in relief at the long list of crimes. Those should be enough. "Thank you so much, detective Lian."
"No problem, Mr. Kwan. We do our part of job so people get the justice they deserve." He said.
"Yes, thank you for that."
"You are welcome."
I hanged up.
I leaned my head back and closed my eyes. The throbbing in my head hadn't stopped since the previous night. I just hoped for everything to end well. I couldn't rest well at all. I wanted to know how everything went. And so I got out of bed and paced around the house. And time passed soon and he was back.
I stood in the middle of the hall and waited for him to walk in. He frowned as he spotted me.
"You are supposed to be taking rest." He said, opening his shoes.
"How did it go?" I asked.
He nodded and walked to me. He stood in front of me and clutched my hand. "It went well maybe. I told each and every detail and me and my therapist's statement matched so Miss. Stella said we can use it against Piere in court."
I smiled, knowing well there were more evidences. "Well, that's it then."
He smiled back. "And off you go to bed now."
"Only if you join me for shower." I winked.
He flushed and smacked my arm. "Look at you! All sick and still so proactive."
I laughed.
....................................
Days passed well. Work resumed, life became busy, Kao's tenure at the school was coming to an end and Grandpa set me a deadline to quit and join the company. Piere was convicted of several crimes and the court's hearing would be soon. For once, my life felt like life. I was happy and in love. Everything seemed to go well though sometimes I overthought and made myself miserable but it didn't change the fact that I was happy.
I could never imagine that I would meet him again and things would end this way. But guess if we have faith, fate intertwines everything. I was glad to find a man like him. He would always say how lucky he was to have me but he just didn't understand how lucky I was to have him in my life. He just made me happy. I wished the spark would never die and the flame would always burn bright.
Piere was sued for several crimes in his hearing that ended him up with forty five years of sentence. Kao was shocked why and how Piere was sued for so many things but he figured out who could be behind those. He didn't talk about it with me but I knew he knew. I had no explanation either. I wanted to protect him, even if it meant for me to go to extreme length.
