Chapter 9 - Something's up

"Again," Damian said as he hovered over Keith. Keith focused his energy and created three force fields in front of him, moved them upwards, made a punching motion and shot them forwards as they crashed into a wall they exploded.

"Okay, I think that's enough for today," Damian said, "plus if we continue you're gonna tear this place down,"

"Did you just acknowledge that I'm getting stronger, you do care," Keith said teasingly as he checked the time, it was already 6:00pm and getting dark, he had been so excited about training that he had even forgotten to get lunch, he was going to have to order something for himself when he got home, Damian just rolled his eyes.

"So what other powers am I gonna get," Keith asked excitedly.

"I can't tell you for now,"

"Why not,"

"I need you to focus on one thing at a time, if I were to tell you everything, you would be too anxious, you would rate the powers, disregard those you see as less importance and only wish to perfect the powers you deem stronger,"

"Hey, isn't that reaching a bit, you can't be sure I'll act like that," Keith said, "just tell me,"

"I made my decision, you can survive without knowing for now," Damian said sternly.

"Come on, please,"

"No, now respect my decision," Damian said, his nerves getting tested.

"Yeesh! okay. I guess it doesn't matter, in the end I'll still get the same powers," he said as him and Damian headed out of the warehouse.

"How are you planning on hiding this from your friends," Damian said trying to change the subject.

"Why do I have to hide it," Keith said, " if anything were to come after them, wouldn't it be better if they knew, then they could be prepared,"

"Technically, but if they find out they may want to become involved, wanting to help and when a danger arises they would be caught in the center which would be worse,"

"Oh!... right, I guess I have to come up with some excuse as to why I look different," Keith said disheartened by the fact he had to hide his powers from his friends.

As he entered his apartment, his heart wished that Cole wasn't around, he didn't want to have to lie to him and he wasn't so sure if his lie was believable.

He crept into the living room, he didn't hear anyone home which was weird since Cole should have been back by now, as he walked through the hall to his room, Cole's door was open but he wasn't in.

Hmm, maybe he decided to stay over at Laura's, Keith thought, "Well that solves the lying problem for now," he said.

As he got his phone to order some take out, he found a voicemail from Cole, he ordered a burger from McRonald's and sat at the kitchen table waiting for his order to arrive. He played the voicemail while he waited, it said," Hey, Keith.... uhh... It's me, Cole, umm something important came up, I won't be home for a few days so don't worry about me, um, see you. "

That was strange, Cole's voice sounded so hurt and sad, something must have happened, Keith thought.

He tried calling Cole but he wouldn't pick up, he was getting a bit worried.

"Stop moping around, there is nothing you can do, " Damian said floating out the back of Keith's head.

"There has to be something,"

"Oh! really, please enlighten me,"

Keith knew Damian was right, he would have tried calling Laura but they had just met and he didn't have her number.

"You're right, there is nothing I can do but wait," Keith said sadly.

**********

Somewhere in the city, two men are having a conversation in an apartment, "Are you sure you want to do this, I know you, I don't think you would want to get associated with these kind of people," a dark haired man said.

"I have to, it's the only way I can help her," said the other man pacing around the room with tears in his eyes.

"Okay, I'll see what I can do," said the dark haired man.

"Thank you," said the other man calming down a bit.
