Deep beneath the grandeur of the Magnificent Jewel Hall, in a secret chamber carved from ancient stone, the flickering light of a single spirit lantern illuminated a lone figure seated cross-legged on a jade meditation mat.
The air was thick with the scent of rare incense, meant to aid concentration and enhance cultivation.
The sixth elder of the Xiao Family, Xiao Yuan, sat in absolute silence, his breath steady, his face serene despite the chaos that had brewed above.
As the elder responsible for overseeing the Magnificent Jewel Hall's affairs, he had long grown complacent, believing his position and strength made him untouchable within Tianxiang City.
His old bones creaked slightly as he shifted, adjusting the flow of Xuan Qi circulating within him.
The elder was unaware that true power had already seeped into his sanctuary.
Silent. Merciless. Absolute.
A ripple passed through the shadows on the far wall, so faint it could have been a trick of the dim lantern light.
But it wasn't.
From the darkness, a presence emerged.
The temperature plummeted. The incense smoke, once rising lazily in elegant curls, stilled mid-air as though frozen in time.
Xiao Yuan's brows furrowed. His seasoned instincts prickled with danger, and his eyes snapped open, revealing pupils that contracted in alarm. "Who's there?!"
But the words had barely escaped his lips when he felt it—a whisper of cold steel brushing the nape of his neck.
In an instant, the elder's body reacted. Years of combat experience kicked in as he propelled himself backward, summoning his Heavenly Energy to form a protective barrier. His muscles tensed, ready to counterattack.
Too slow...
The blade moved faster than thought itself.
A thin, almost imperceptible swish sliced through the air, followed by an eerie stillness.
Xiao Yuan's eyes widened in disbelief. He tried to speak, but no sound came out. His vision tilted as his head separated cleanly from his body.
Blood gushed like a crimson fountain, staining the pristine jade floor.
Thud!
His lifeless body slumped forward, still seated in the meditation posture, while his head rolled several feet away, face frozen in an expression of shock and terror.
The assassin stood motionless, cloaked in shadows that seemed to breathe and writhe around him like living tendrils.
The assassin crouched, grasping the severed head by the hair. Lifeless eyes stared back at him, the arrogance they once held forever extinguished.
A distorted chuckle echoed softly in the chamber. From the corner, another figure emerged, cloaked in a faint crimson aura—the Demon Lord himself.
"Pathetic," The Demon Lord muttered, his gaze cold as he studied the head. "For all their bluster, the Xiao Family falls like brittle leaves in the wind."
The assassin, expressionless and mechanical, offered the severed head without a word.
The Demon Lord accepted it with a slow, deliberate motion, his lips curling into a wicked smile.
"I have my own use for this." He examined the face, almost amused. "An elder's head should make a fine gift, don't you think? The Xiao Family will understand soon enough—there are some enemies you don't make, not even in your wildest dreams."
The assassin gave a slight nod, then, without waiting for further instruction, stepped back into the shadows. His form shimmered like a heat mirage, merging seamlessly with the darkness until nothing remained but the faint scent of blood and the oppressive silence of death.
The Demon Lord stood there for a moment longer, twirling the elder's head by the hair like a macabre trophy. His crimson eyes glowed faintly in the dim light as he chuckled.
"Hahaha, brother… your anger is a storm, and I must admit, I enjoy watching it unfold." His grin widened. "This world will drown in blood before you're satisfied, won't it? How entertaining."
With that, he vanished into the void, leaving behind only the cooling corpse of Xiao Yuan and the lingering sense of dread that something far more terrifying than political rivalry had been unleashed upon the world.

In the extreme north of the land, lay the Silver Blizzard City!
There were snow-capped mountains in all directions as far as the eye could see!
In the middle of the vast and misty uninhabitable peaks was a magnificent, mysterious, and unpredictable city of pure ice, seemingly overlooking the entire world from the secrecy of the clouded snow-covered peaks!
It was not yet daybreak, and the sky was still dark when the bell to convene rang out; the loud echoes of the bell disrupted the seemingly perpetual tranquility of the place, and the many pure-white birds that were sitting in the area suddenly shot up like rockets, scared away by the sudden drum beats; their cries filled the sky as they circled above for a very long time without coming down.
The base of the main building was made of pure ice; and inside the hall, on a wall of snow-white bricks, was a portrait of people in white clothes, the posture of each of them was different; however, each of them revealed the same look on their face, one of pride and cold power!
Their eyes were 'God-Like' and full of murderous aura, and it seemed like they had power over life and death, and could seize anything they wanted; in fact, they seemed so powerful that they considered everyone else below them!
They were the Silver Blizzard City's ancestors!
A white-clothed old man, with white hair and a beard, stood in front of the incense table with his hands behind his back, silently looking at the portrait of the ancestors, and on his face was an expression as tranquil as calm water and as cold as ice.
And even though his hair was white, he had a straight back and a proud chest. He stood erect like a shaft of a formidable blade, all the while emitting a cold sword-like aura!
No one could doubt that this old man was hiding immense power within him!
In fact, it seemed that his strength could shake the earth, surpassing all his peers!
Then, the swishing sound of many clothes overcame the silence in the hall as many white-clad people entered it rapidly from all directions, and assembled in a manner which indicated that each already had a predetermined position to stand on. And even in that huge crowd, no one bumped into each other and only a word or two could be heard being spoken.
In a short while, everyone settled down in their respective positions and all eyes turned towards the old man standing in the center. And though they were all a bit surprised at being called like this, no one uttered a single word thereafter.
Blue lights emanated from their bodies! There were nearly a hundred people there, and all of them were at least Sky Xuan experts!
