Chapter 48 - Chapter 48

Lore and Kyo traversed the island. A jungle seemed to cover the whole landscape. A mountain range poked out on the far side og the island fr9m where they landed.

After two days of hiking the duo approached the mountain range. They hadn't seen any signs of Itrixa, but an uneasy feeling filled the air.

They were both nervous. This wasn't something they could run from. If they failed, death awaited them.

Kyo spotted a clearing ahead, and pointed at it. "I think we should rest there," said Kyo.

Lore agreed, and the pair made camp.

That night, the stars shined brightly overhead.

The moon cast a pale glow upon the ground. The fire burned bright, and duo sat watching the fat dripping from their meal.

Kyo was eating some fish, and Lore was munching on a roasted bird.

The pair chatted idly, and talked about what happened during the past couple of months since leaving Knight Order HQ.

Lore told him about the training, and how much he enjoyed learning new spells.

The pair exchanged combat stories, and their time in the Knight Order.

Off in the distance the sounds of trees crashing, and a ear shattering roar erupted. Even though it was miles away, the roar sounded like it was right next to the duo.

"What is going on?" asked Lore.

Kyo shrugged, and replied, "Sounds like trouble."

The noise grew louder, and the pair decided to leave. As the pair stood up quickly and readied their weapons for whatever was headed their way.

As trees crumpled, Lore and Kyo could see the entire jungle shaking, and as it got closer the eart began to rumble. Whatever was headed their way was humongous.

In the distance, a huge creature burst through the forest. Its massive size dwarfed even the largest tree.

It was covered in thick black scales, and had a long snout that ended in sharp fangs. Long red claws protruded from its hands, and feet. Itrixa the Elder Drake stood before the pair. She was bigger than ever, and her eyes glinted with malice.

She charged towards Kyo, who raised his shield to defend himself.

Lore ran toward the beast, and swung his sword at its legs. The blade sliced into the scales, but Lore's eyes widened in shock when his blade didn't move any further. Itrixa swiped her leg and threw Lore like a ragdoll.

Before Lore hit the ground, she turned and attacked Kyo. Her claw slammed into his chest, and blood sprayed everywhere.

Kyo fell to the ground, clutching his wound. He tried desperately not to pass out.

His vision blurred, and he saw white flashes. Kyo coursed healing magic throughout his body, and sealed the wound.

While this was happening, Itrixa focused her attention back on Lore. Her maw was full of jagged teeth, fire flickered in the back of her throat.

Her eyes were wide open, and her pupils dilated.

"I am hungry," said Itrixa.

Lore drew his second longsword, and combined the two swords into his greatsword. Now holding a two handed great sword, Lore enveloped the blade in lightning.

With a flick of his wrist, the blades shot forward and struck Itrixa in the stomach. Sparks flew everywhere as the electricity danced along Itrixas' torso.

The blow knocked her off balance, and she stumbled backwards slightly. Only a small wound formed on her scaled stomach.

Lore rushed forward, and slashed down with both arms. He flipped his sword, so that the tip was racing at Itrixa's hide. Lore knew a slash wouldn't cut deep enough. He had to stab and impale the beast.

Blood spurted from the wound, and Itrixa roared in a fury Lore had never witnessed.

To add insult to injury, Lore pulled out his dagger and stabbed Itrixa in the eye. Blood gushed forth and drenched Itrixa's face.

Itrixa staggered backward, and crashed against one of the pillars. As she slid across the stone, Lore leapt onto her back.

The massive beast crashed into the wall, and knocked Lore off her back. The wind knocked our of the man, he tried to get to his feet quickly.

But before Lore could stand, Itrixa pounced upon him.

Lore felt her claws dig into his shoulder, and he screamed in agony. She lifted him up by the neck, and brought him close to her mouth.

From off to the side, Kyo shot a hail storm of steel magic at Itrixa. Most of the magic bounced off her, but cuts and gashes slowly formed over her scales.

She growled in frustration, and dropped Lore to the ground.

Lore rolled to the left, and came to his knees.

Another wave of energy washed through him, and he collapsed to his hands.

Lore coughed up blood, and spat it onto the floor.

Lore cast his highest level healing magic, closing his wounds, and then slowly got up. Lore gathered as much magic as he could and wrapped his sword with a thin crackling blade of lightning Lore rushed Itrixa and slashed at the back of he leg, trying to sever her tendon. The attack only managed to nick the thick muscle, but Itrixa yelped in pain.

"You think you can beat me?" snarled Itrixa ^Do not underestimate my power! I will kill everyone before me."

"We plan to slay you, here and now Itrixa. Your death is just an inevitability."

Lore raised his hand and pointed at Itrixa, and a bolt of lightning shot forth.

It hit the drake square in her chest, and exploded into a burst of flame.

Sparks arched along her scales, and it seemed as if she was slightly paralyzed. Her eyes were wide open, and she screeched in anger.

Kyo unleashed another volley of Steel magic bolts, and was able to pierce the thick hide of Itrixa. But instead of hitting her heart, most of the magic went into her head. A few bolts found their mark, and sank into her skull.

"That'll do." thought Kyo. "Now let's see how fast we can finish this thing off."

Itrixa roared again in anger, and Lore attacked her from the rear again. He aimed for the same spot on the leg where he wounded her earlier. This time he struck true, and sliced deep into her flesh.

This caused her to fall back against the wall once more, and Lore jumped atop her shoulders. His swords glowed blue with electricity and he held them above his heads.

He fired a barrage of lightning strikes at her, one after the next. They slammed into her body, and made her writhe in pain.

Lore brought his sword down between her shoulder blades, but unfortunately for Lore, the stab was shallow. She fell backwards away from him, and landed hard on the stone floor.

Her tail thrashed wildly behind her as she tried to regain composure.

Lore jumped from her back and slid before twisting around and facing Itrixa. He separated his greatsword and charged forward, swinging both swords at once. One blow missed, but the other connected with her chest.

A loud thunk filled the room, and Itrixa stumbled backward. Blood ran out of the wound and splattered across the floor.
