Chapter 50 - Thunderstruck

The sun was high above Magnolia, and the Fairy Tail guild bustled with its usual chaos. But a silence fell over the main hall as Laxus Dreyar entered through the front doors, lightning crackling faintly around him.

He locked eyes with Lucky.

"Let's go on a mission together," Laxus said without preamble.

Lucky blinked. "Sure."

But Laxus added, "Before we start… let's spar."

That threw Lucky off. "Wait, what?"

By now, Cana, Erza, and Gray had gathered. Even Makarov looked over with concern.

Laxus cracked his knuckles. "One-on-one. Outside. Just a friendly match."

Lucky frowned, but nodded. "Fine. But if we're betting, I've got a condition too."

Laxus raised a brow. "You first."

"If I win, you owe me one favor in the future. Anything. No complaints."

Laxus smirked. "Deal. But if I win… I get one of your summons."

Lucky looked at Makarov, who gave a sheepish laugh and shrugged. "He's always like this."

"…Fine," Lucky said. "Let's go."

———————————————————

Outside the guild, a large circle formed as the crowd gathered. Erza crossed her arms. Gray looked mildly concerned. Cana, chewing on a snack, smirked. "This is gonna be fun."

Lucky activated his Tier 10 card: Power of Luck – Chapter 1: Lucky Hit.

At the same time, he invoked a new, evolved spell from his upgraded Solid Script Magic:

[Tracking AIR]

Dozens of glowing letters spun midair before forming aerodynamic Words that shimmered with wind energy. They shot out in a spiral, targeting Laxus with homing precision.

The moment it launched, Lucky felt the surge.

Multiplier: x5

5 times the speed. 5 times the force. 5 times the amount.

The air around the battlefield howled as the spells screamed toward Laxus.

Even some of the guild members instinctively flinched.

But Laxus didn't move.

Instead he raised a hand.

CRACK!

A controlled lightning bolt lanced outward, intercepting every single rune midair. The spells detonated in a chain reaction, filling the field with smoke and wind.

When the dust cleared, Laxus stood untouched.

"Cute trick," he said. "Try harder."

———————————————————

Lucky snarled and summoned five Wind Wolves and a Spirit Fox, sending them into a coordinated pincer attack.

Laxus didn't move.

Then BOOM!

A thunderous burst erupted from his body, blasting the summons apart before they could reach him. The shockwave sent Lucky stumbling back, his ears ringing.

Lucky retaliated instantly with a wide [FIRE BLAST], aiming to zone Laxus but the lightning user vanished mid-flame.

ZAP!

He reappeared behind Lucky.

"Too slow."

A lightning-charged open-palm strike sent Lucky flying not enough to injure seriously, but enough to make him taste copper.

———————————————————

Lucky coughed, then grinned through bloodied lips.

He summoned ten clones, all of them casting [FLASH] simultaneously. The light burst out in every direction blinding, raw.

Laxus flinched.

Lucky's real body slammed a [STONE WALL] beneath Laxus' feet, trying to trap him in rising stone then to attempt to attack him from above.

But...

CRACK!

Laxus punched the ground, discharging lightning through it. The stone Wall Words shattered like glass, and in the blink of an eye

Laxus had grabbed Lucky by the collar.

"You're thinking. Good."

Then hurled him into a tree.

. Lucky groaned, 'this Really hurts.

———————————————————

He tried to push himself up but froze.

CRACKLE… CRACKLE…

Thin threads of lightning surrounded him in a spiderweb-like cage. They hummed with restrained power like one wrong twitch would sear him alive.

Laxus stood just outside, arms crossed.

"You rely too much on summons and spells," he said. "Your body's weak which is weird And Your reactions are slow."

Lucky gritted his teeth. "Then why'd you ask to spar?"

Laxus smirked. "To see if you are Weak or not."

With a flick of his wrist, the lightning cage dissipated.

"Mission's still on. Don't disappoint me."

———————————————————

Lucky lay in the dirt, his arm still crackling faintly from burns. And yet… he grinned.

"I didn't even see it…"

This wasn't a spar.

It was a lesson.

Laxus had gone easy on him not out of arrogance, but because he recognized how fragile Lucky's body was.

Laxus walked up and flicked his fingers. The static energy around Lucky faded.

"You're not bad. Your magic's tricky. But if you can't react… it doesn't matter."

He tossed a card at Lucky's chest.

"Keep your summon. I'm not taking your pet."

Lucky caught it, stunned.

Makarov let out a massive sigh of relief.

The crowd buzzed with conversation. Cana helped Lucky sit up. Gray and Erza approached quietly.

Lucky thought to himself:

'I don't like to owe people. So I'll pay that favor back. Soon.'

Growth and Resolve

Lucky stood still, staring at his hands.

Now he understood.

"I'm weak… not because I lack power," he muttered, "but because I don't know how to use it."

He was a child wielding a nuke dangerous but undisciplined.

If Laxus had wanted to kill him…

He wouldn't even have realized he was dead.

That chill stayed in his bones.

Gray helped him up. Cana dusted him off. Erza just stared, unreadable.

Lucky turned to Laxus, smirking. "So… are we going on a mission or not?"

Laxus raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "… yeah. I've got one in mind."

The Thunder Bird

After downing a potion and regaining some strength, Lucky followed Laxus back into the guild.

Laxus handed the mission request to Makarov.

"A hideout. A-rank target. Thunder Bird. Known for its speed."

Lucky glanced at the paper and his eyes narrowed.

"Thunder Bird, huh…" he muttered, then looked at Laxus. 'Figures you'd pick something like this.'

Nobody in Fairy Tail knew that Laxus was a Dragon Slayer.

But Lucky knew.

And maybe… he'd turn that bird into Laxus's summon.

He smirked.

Off We Go

After accepting the quest, the pair left the guild and passed through the outskirts of Magnolia into open terrain.

Lucky was about to summon his golden eagle when he noticed something strange

Laxus was walking.

Not toward the train station. Just… walking.

Lucky raised an eyebrow. A knowing smirk tugged at his lips.

'So he really can't ride vehicles…'

Laxus caught the smirk and gave Lucky a sharp glance but said nothing.

'No one knows but Gramps. Coincidence…?'

Lucky snapped his fingers, summoning the massive golden eagle.

"Wait," he said. "We'll fly."

The eagle spread its wings wide. Lucky climbed on and looked down.

"Come on up."

Laxus hesitated, then climbed aboard behind him.

The eagle took off.

Laxus instinctively tensed, waiting for the sickness to kick in… but nothing happened.

He blinked.

'No stomach ache?'

Then he glanced at Lucky.

Lucky looked back, smirking.

Laxus crossed his arms and muttered, "...Now I regret not taking one."

Lucky laughed. "I'll give you a better one later. I don't like to owe people."

The eagle soared toward the mountains, carrying both mages swiftly into the clouds.
