Chapter 2 - Despite it All

BlAM! Her phone drops on her face. Her fingers are sweaty after playing the game so long. She originally planned to sleep, but decided to play a mobile mmorpg game instead. Her character is a lvl. 35 assassin and hunter class character.

The assassin class specializes in stealth with quick high attack power.

The hunter class specializes in tracking and trapping other players.

She's successfully defeated every opponent she's come against, which is just 2 in total. After the 4 hour playing sessions her body can no longer stay awake. Her eyes closed gradually and finally shut.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BE! Her hand stops the alarm clock. Today is friday. Her face is bitter as she gets ready to go to work.

She spends 30 mins getting cleaned up and dressed. She afterwards heads to the kitchen and pours a medium sized bowl of cereal.

After pouring in the milk, she eats the bowl of cereal while scrolling through her social media.

"Where is it?" she thought.

The game she was relentlessly playing, was releasing new bosses as a spring event. New bosses meant rare items and skills.

She began to scroll through a map of the in game event locations. She quickly noticed there were no events that she could win easily.

Playing at her level wasn't recommended.

The caption read: The new event will be tomorrow and open for 30 days. For clarification purposes, the development team has sent out this statement; "Only players level 70+ should challenge these events. Any players below level 70 will likely lose and should not risk it. We personally recommend going in groups, as we have greatly increased the difficulty of the boss fights. If in any case, a player lower than level 70, by 30 or 40 levels clears an event, they will get all event items."

"Hmph! They must want me to challenge this event. If I get all the items I could be unstoppable! Well-not exactly, but harder to kill." she thought.

After thinking she realized she had already finished the cereal and had just been putting the milk into her mouth with the spoon.

"Time for work." She unenthusiastically thought.

Her job was being a digital artist. She always liked drawing from a child, but as the days went by she began to like it less.

Her job as a freelance artist was to draw whatever her clients asked her for. And do so within the time frame given. She couldn't enjoy drawing completely, because she didn't feel like she was drawing what she wanted.

For a long time this was her dream job. A job which made her financially stable enough to pay rent with a roommate, and take care of basic living expenses.

Drawing was now seen as work and so she did not draw much, except for practicing purposes, and only found real pleasure in video games, some in exercise, and some in food.

Despite it all, she only thought of one thing; taking down the best players in the video games she played and making a name for herself, which players would remember for years to come; and even give money to support.

But the doubts in her still lingered.
