Chapter 6 - Dancing Flames and Healing Tears

The atmosphere in the grand room was charged with excitement and trepidation, like the calm before a storm. The towering rectangular table, crafted from rich mahogany, symbolized the weight of responsibility that rested upon the shoulders of the ten middle-aged teachers seated around it.

The polished surface reflected the warm glow of the crystal chandelier hanging above, illuminating the room with an air of opulence.

Headmaster Arkan's commanding voice rang out, reverberating against the marble walls adorned with exquisite tapestries that depicted the history of the Divine Academy.

Her presence commanded respect, her gray-streaked hair a testament to her years of wisdom and experience in guiding young talents.

As the teachers gathered around the table, they emanated an aura of power and knowledge, each one exquisitely dressed in their own unique style, befitting their areas of expertise.

Professor Elara, renowned for her ice-based Essence manipulation, spoke with a sharp gaze and a glint of excitement in her eyes. Her sapphire-colored robes shimmered like frozen water, adding to her icy charm.

"The Essence Trial this year will be truly exceptional, especially with a candidate from the esteemed Jin family," she announced, her voice carrying a tinge of fascination.

Headmaster Arkan nodded thoughtfully, her piercing eyes glistening with intrigue. "Indeed, Ka-Jin is quite the prodigy, rumored to surpass even the eldest daughter of the Jin family in talent and potential."

The teachers exchanged knowing glances, acknowledging the significance of this revelation. The eldest daughter had once been the talk of the academy, a legend in her own right, but now, Ka-Jin seemed destined to eclipse her achievements.

Professor Linnea, with a warm and nurturing presence, chimed in thoughtfully, her forest green robes exuding an air of calm. "Ah, yes, the eldest daughter caused quite a stir with her unparalleled prowess, defeating every student in the academy singlehandedly. It was a spectacle to behold."

"Yes, her strength was unmatched, but her temperament..." the headmaster trailed off with a hint of concern, her gaze wandering to the intricate patterns on the tablecloth.

The memory of the eldest daughter's uncontrollable outbursts still lingered, a haunting reminder of the dangers that immense power could pose.

"Let's hope Ka-Jin doesn't follow the same path," she added, her voice tinged with both hope and caution.

"I've heard he possesses remarkable healing abilities alongside his swordsmanship skills," said Professor Linnea, her eyes reflecting curiosity. "A dual practitioner, quite a rare combination."

The other professors nodded in agreement, contemplating the implications of such a unique fusion of Essences. The prospect of someone who could wield both destructive and restorative powers sparked both awe and concern among them.

"He seems to have a different kind of strength compared to his sister," the headmaster noted, her expression thoughtful. "It's crucial we understand his capabilities fully during the trial."

The teachers exchanged nods, silently acknowledging the importance of assessing Ka-Jin's abilities thoroughly. The Essence Trial was not just a test of power; it was a means to identify and guide the potential of young Essence holders.

"Absolutely," replied Professor Elara, her gaze now serious. "We need to ensure he doesn't lose control of his powers during the trial. The consequences could be catastrophic."

The room fell into a momentary silence, each teacher lost in their thoughts, contemplating the significance of the upcoming trial. The Essence Trial was not just an event; it was a defining moment that could shape the destiny of every young student participating in it.

As the teachers prepared to mentor and assess the candidates, the weight of their responsibility settled upon them, a reminder of the importance of their roles in guiding the next generation of Divine Essence holders.

The crystal chandelier above seemed to dim momentarily, casting elongated shadows on the walls, as if mirroring the uncertainty and challenges that lay ahead. The Essence Trial was approaching, and its outcome would reverberate through the annals of the academy's history.

It was a time of preparation, anticipation, and above all, a test of the young talents' mettle in the face of extraordinary power.

As the countdown on the holographic screen reached its final second, a sudden sensation jolted through Lee Jin's body, his eyelids fluttered open, and he was met with a heavy weight on his chest, his breaths ragged and labored, as if each inhale and exhale were a struggle. His lungs felt like they were gasping for air, as if he had been deprived of oxygen for far too long.

With a trembling hand, he wiped the sweat from his forehead, feeling the dampness of it against his clammy skin. The room's air hung heavy with the scent of old wood and dried flowers, but beneath it all was the subtle undercurrent of his own anxiety and fear.

His vision was initially blurry, but as it cleared, he found himself laying on his bed with two black-haired figures standing before him. The red rays of the setting sun filtered through the half-open curtains, casting a warm glow that painted the worn-out furniture in nostalgic hues.

His eyes met with the male figure, Yohan's, and he saw the concern and relief in his gaze. Yohan's hand reached out to offer support, his touch warm and grounding. It was as if that simple gesture alone helped Lee Jin find some stability amid the storm of emotions raging within him.

"Nara... Yohan?" he whispered, his voice still weak and tremulous. The emotions coursing through him were overwhelming, leaving him feeling vulnerable and exposed.

Nara, standing beside Yohan, turned her worried face away from Lee Jin when she heard him whispering their names, her emotions too overwhelming to bear his gaze.

A single tear escaped from the corner of her eye, and as it glistened in the red rays of the setting sun, it seemed to carry the weight of their shared experiences and unspoken feelings.

Her hand trembled slightly, and she wiped away the tear hastily, as if embarrassed to show her vulnerability.

The room's atmosphere seemed to shimmer with a mix of emotions—worry, relief, and a tinge of sadness—as the red sunlight cast dancing shadows on the walls, like fleeting memories of their shared journey.

Lee Jin, however, wasn't sure what to say next, caught up as he was by his whirlwind of emotions. Nara looked back at him with her raven eyes, her expression conflicted, as if she wanted to say something but was struggling to find the right words.

With a steadying breath, she spoke up, her voice quiet and trembling. "Are you... alright?"

Lee Jin wasn't sure how to respond, his throat feeling dry. The air in the room felt thick and heavy, but there was an undercurrent of anticipation that hung in the silence. Lee Jin didn't have the energy to speak, his thoughts chaotic, and the words wouldn't come easily.

He wanted to say something—anything—to break the silence. He knew that if he didn't speak up, something would slip away from him.

It was as if he could see the words out of the corner of his eye, hovering at the edge of his mind, but each time he tried to grasp them, they slipped through his fingers and evaporated into the ether, like dust caught in the wind.

As he stared at Nara's dark eyes, he noticed a hint of sadness in her gaze. There was an undercurrent of worry and concern, and she seemed to be holding herself back.

It was as if she was... afraid of something.

The sight sent a pang of hurt and guilt through Lee Jin's chest. The way she looked at him was as if she was afraid that she might say the wrong thing, as if she was worried that a single word might be enough to break him.

He didn't understand why she would feel that way, but he was also at a loss as to what to say to her.

What could he say, anyway? Words felt useless and empty now. His mind was cluttered, and his feelings were in disarray. What could he do? He felt as if the ground had crumbled out from under him, and his emotions were all over the place.

It had been five years since they started living together. Nara and Yohan had lost their parents when they were just ten years old, and Lee Jin who had also experience abandonment taken them in and raised them as his own. In those years, they had formed a bond that went beyond friendship; they were a family in every sense of the word.

As the silence lingered, the weight of their shared past seemed to hang in the air. Nara's eyes glistened with unshed tears, and Yohan's concern was evident in every line of his face.

They had faced hardships together, supported each other through their darkest moments, and now, in this moment of uncertainty, their emotions were entwined like a delicate dance of heartbeats.

Suddenly, the silence was broken by the sound of male voices outside the room. "Lee Jin!" they called out, their tone filled with a mix of mockery and bravado. "Hahaha, come out. You bastard. It is the time to play. Hahaha,"

Nara and Yohan turned their heads towards the door in unison, their face contorting in anger and frustration. "Those bastards...! How dare they?" Yohan growled under his breath. His eyes darkened as his body shook with suppressed rage.

'This voice...?!' Lee Jin thought, recognizing the taunting tone immediately. His vision blurred, and he could feel his chest tighten in response.

The next moment, he could hear the sound of loud footsteps drawing nearer to the room's door, as well as a series of muffled thumps as the intruders presumably pushed their way through the mess of junk on the ground.

The door to his room swung open with a loud bang, the broken doorknob colliding against the wall. "Ah, there you are," came a loud voice.

"Oh," The speaker's eyes fell upon the two figures standing beside Lee Jin's bed. "Who are these two?" He asked pointing his finger at Nara and Yohan.

"Well, it doesn't matter who they are. All that matters is you, Lee Jin," he said with a sneer. "You've been hiding away, acting like you're better than us. But you're nothing but a weakling, just like you were back then."

Lee Jin's heart pounded in his chest, a mix of fear and anger surging within him. He knew these boys from his past—they were the ones who had tormented him and made him feel like an outcast. Their words cut deep, stirring up memories of the pain and loneliness he had felt all those years ago.

"Let's go, boys, it's time to have some fun," the speaker said, his eyes gleaming with sadistic glee.

Hearing their leader's command, the other two boys stepped forward, a menacing grin spreading across their faces. The speaker continued tauntingly, "Today we are gonna have so much fun."

But as they reached closer to the bed, their sinister intentions were suddenly met with an unexpected force. With lightning reflexes, Nara's hand shot out, firmly gripping the arm of one of the boys before he could make contact with Lee Jin.

It was a breathtaking sight—her raven-black hair seemed to come alive with a shimmering blue light, and her eyes blazed like sapphires ablaze with magical energy.

A surge of power filled the room, crackling with an otherworldly force that seemed to command respect and fear. Nara's eyes, glistening with that same mesmerizing blue hue, spoke volumes about the strength she wielded.

Her face, once gentle and caring, was now a mask of anger and fury, her emotions barely contained. Her voice trembled, charged with determination as she issued a warning that cut through the tension like a bolt of lightning. "Don't even fu*king think of touching him."
