Chapter 40 - Goldie Barks Like A Dog

What exactly has she raised here?

Jin quickly spotted Su Ye.

It immediately let out a whimpering sound.

"Wuu wuu wuu~~"

Next, a deep purple vine shot out, wrapped around Su Ye's wrist, and yanked her over.

The blooming black trumpet flower suddenly closed up tightly, turning into a flower bud.

Jin whimpered again, and kept ramming that flower bud into her waist and belly.

"Wuu wuu wuu~~"

Thud, thud, thud—bumped her three times.

Then another couple of whimpers, followed by two more bumps.

Su Ye grabbed that flower bud in her arms.

She reached out and stroked the flower bud, then gently touched its deep purple leaf.

Jin seemed to really enjoy her petting.

After a couple strokes, it became much more docile, those crazily flailing vines in mid-air also retracted.

It just kept nuzzling against her.

Su Ye couldn't help laughing because of it.

Why did it feel like raising a dog?

A couple soothing rubs and it turned tame at once.

Although... uh, no fur, just tiny backwards barbs.

Luckily, Jin was still small, and its barbs were soft, not prickly at all.

From far away, Xing's voice was heard explaining:

"Miss, that wolfdog you brought back? That very night, it found its three buddies.

Together, they howled at the plant you raised.

And then, you ended up with this situation you see now.

Comrade Jin used its vines to whip those wolfdogs one by one."

After hearing all this, Su Ye's lips twitched.

She looked down and carefully examined Jin again.

Deep purple stem, aggressive vines, and that blooming black trumpet flower.

A plant that can imitate sounds...

Su Ye clicked her tongue. She felt like she kind of knew just what she'd raised.

She turned and called out to Xing, who was keeping her distance,

"Go get some raw meat. Chop it finely."

Ever since Jin almost buried Xing alive with its vines, Xing had kept a respectful distance from Jin.

Hearing this, Xing thought Su Ye was going to feed the poor little dogs.

She nodded frantically. As she left, she looked at the injuries on those little dogs and winced with sympathy.

The miss had been busy all along, so she didn't know what had gone on in the backyard.

Nobody knew what kind of plant this was, only that it was extremely fierce.

These five dogs had been buried alive by it several times already.

Thankfully, the dogs were tough. They always managed to crawl out, panting, and escaped under the pavilion.

After that, all they dared to do was bark a few times—never again did they set paw in that patch of earth.

Very soon, Xing arrived with a huge basin of raw meat.

"Miss, the meat is here."

Xing stood on the stone path, refusing to step into the soil no matter what.

Su Ye walked over and took the basin of meat.

Xing thought Su Ye was going to feed the dogs.

And then… saw the miss set the basin next to the plant instead.

The plant bent down, and its flower bud circled the basin twice.

Then, in a flash, the bud bloomed into a black trumpet flower, and two vines grabbed the basin, dumping all the meat right into the flower.

Xing's face was filled with terror, stepping back with every step.

Three seconds later, she collapsed at the pavilion's column, clutching it for support.

A meat-eating plant??

Oh heavens.

Xing's face was as white as a sheet.

Yet, seeing the miss standing in front of the plant, both exasperated and amused, gently kicked its stem and said,

"Eat slower."

However, just as Su Ye finished speaking, Jin ate even more ravenously.

Probably because of their contract.

Watching the Golden Crow gorge on raw meat, she didn't even feel the least bit afraid.

Xing, face ashen, opened her mouth:

"Mi-miss, this, this…"

Su Ye looked at Xing, then back at the contracted plant, and slowly explained,

"I think it's a... Cannibal Flower."

It's just, Cannibal Flowers mostly grow in damp, gloomy swamps full of miasma.

The thing they loathe most is sunny weather.

But the one she contracted with was out here, in the middle of the hottest summer, under the blazing sun.

The five dogs were panting with their tongues lolling from the heat, but it didn't seem uncomfortable at all.

On the contrary, it seemed buzzing with energy.

It had just argued with those five dogs, after all.

Could it be a mutant Cannibal Flower?

Su Ye pondered, her gaze falling to the contract mark on her index finger.

Two deep purple little leaves swirled right at her knuckle.

Normally, signing a contract with a spiritual pet—or a plant—wouldn't leave any mark at all.
