Chapter 9 - The Empyrean Temple

On the other side, the first thing Su Ye did upon returning to the City Lord Mansion was to lift her skirt and rush hurriedly toward Su Ruoruo's room.

She pushed open Su Ruoruo's door, but her emotions were so restless that she used too much force—the door slammed onto the floor with a loud thud.

Su Ruoruo, who had been sleeping on the bed, instantly opened her eyes.

The person on the bed struggled to prop herself up, her eyes filled with resentment and vigilance as she stared at Su Ye.

The orchid hairpin on her head trembled, on the verge of falling due to its owner's angry shaking.

"Su Ye, what are you trying to do?"

Su Ye glanced at the broken door on the floor, then at the weak Su Ruoruo on the bed, and stopped herself from saying what she'd intended.

But Su Ruoruo on the bed let out a mocking laugh.

"Beating me up once wasn't enough—what more do you want?

You've relied on Father's power to do wrong for so many years.

Su Ye, aren't you afraid of retribution!!"

When Su Ye heard the word 'retribution,' her eyelids twitched.

Immediately, she recalled her own fate: Core gouged out, corpse hung up.

Thinking that, Su Ye moved closer to Su Ruoruo's bedside.

As she approached the bed, Su Ruoruo's gaze grew even more wary.

Standing by the bed, she spoke up.

"Someone!"

Instantly, several maids rushed in with a rustling sound.

"Young City Lord."

Su Ruoruo's face was pale as she shrank deeper into the bed.

"You—you want to do what?"

Su Ye looked at her, a smile appearing on her face.

"I heard you really want to go to the Divine Mansion."

She tried her best not to seem so anxious.

But… Su Ye's reputation from before was truly dreadful.

Her arrogant, reckless, and domineering attitude has left a deep impression on people.

Now, Su Ye suddenly smiled, and it only made everyone tense up, growing even more vigilant.

Su Ruoruo gripped the quilt tightly, speaking through gritted teeth.

"What do you mean?"

Su Ye sat down by the bed, her brocade clothes a sharp contrast to Su Ruoruo, weak and pale as she lay collapsed on the bed.

She slowly pulled out an invitation letter to the Divine Mansion from her bag and handed it to Su Ruoruo.

"I know your wish is to serve at the Divine Mansion, so I specially got this for you. Do you want to go?"

The Divine Mansion stands at the easternmost edge of the Wangu Continent.

Legend has it that miracles once descended there.

Thus, the Divine Mansion became the most mysterious and coveted place on the Wangu Continent.

It's said only those with a sincere heart can pass the trials of the Divine Mansion.

Upon seeing that invitation letter, Su Ruoruo's eyes brightened, and she almost blurted out,

"You're giving it to me?"

Su Ye nodded.

"I am ignorant and lacking, probably unable to catch the eye of the gods. But you, sister, are so outstanding. Only that place suits you."

Perhaps her desire for that mysterious place was so strong that Su Ruoruo, looking at Su Ye, had a little less disgust in her eyes. She even reached out, trying to take the invitation and examine it carefully to confirm its authenticity.

Once she was sure the letter was real, Su Ruoruo looked up at Su Ye, half wary, half bewildered.

"You could be so kind?"

Su Ye smiled.

"Sister doesn't want it?"

As she spoke, she reached out to take the letter back.

Immediately, Su Ruoruo snatched the letter and clutched it to her chest, blurting out,

"I want it!"

When Su Ruoruo agreed right away, Su Ye nodded and called out toward the door,

"Someone, help my sister change clothes."

With that, Su Ye's smile faded, and she turned to walk out the door.

She truly had wanted to get along well with Su Ruoruo.

Three months—if they could get along, maybe she could win back Su Ruoruo's heart, and perhaps she'd escape the fate of her core being gouged out and her corpse hung up.
