Downstairs, Daniel was sprawled on the couch, legs kicked up, a blanket half over his lap like he lived there full-time , which, to be fair, he did.
Josh sat across from him, quiet, fingers tapping lightly on the armrest.
Daniel let out a loud, dramatic sigh.
"I need my girlfriend."
Josh glanced at him.
Daniel stared at the ceiling. "No seriously. This long-distance thing between me and Alicia being upstairs is killing me."
Josh rolled his eyes. "You saw her an hour ago."
"Exactly. That's sixty full minutes of emotional starvation."
Josh smirked a little and shook his head.
But Daniel narrowed his eyes, noticing.
"You've been quiet."
Josh didn't answer right away.
Daniel leaned forward. "What's going on in that scary brain of yours? Is it about Mabel?"
Josh nodded slowly. "Yeah."
Daniel sat up straighter. "You found something?"
"Not yet. I made a few calls. I'm having someone dig into her charity records, her assistants, recent events… all of it."
