"Stretch out your arm. I need to take your pulse," Tan Qingnian said gently.
Fearing her husband hadn't heard clearly, the woman beside him quickly placed his arm on the table.
Tan Qingnian placed his fingers on the man's pulse. A few minutes later, he pressed several Points on the man's forehead and asked if it hurt. The man reported pain in some spots but not in others. Based on his response, Tan Qingnian's expression grew solemn. "Turn your ear toward the light from outside."
The man obediently angled his head toward the door, and the surrounding crowd of onlookers focused their attention on his problematic ear.
"Don't move your head," Tan Qingnian instructed. He took out his Acupuncture Box, retrieved a Silver Needle, and in a single, fluid motion, inserted nine needles into Points around the man's left ear. Then, he began to twirl a long Silver Needle positioned just behind the ear.
