MINISTRY OF ARCHEOLOGY
Evening had already settled over the Ministry of Archeology by the time Walter finally placed the file on Akeshi's desk.
For the past few days, the minister had waited with growing impatience for every scrap of information that could be gathered about one woman—Karina. Now at last, the file was in his hands, thick enough to promise answers.
Walter remained standing before the desk, waiting for a reaction.
Akeshi opened it and began to read.
The first thing that struck him was the woman's competence. Her record was impressive, her qualifications polished, her experience varied and strong. It was the kind of résumé that would have carried weight anywhere. On paper, she was exceptional.
But the better the file made her look, the angrier he became.
Because none of it explained why a complete nobody had dared to use his name.
His jaw tightened.
