Chapter 4 - Moonbeam

Yuri looked across the table at Ted, eyes squinted in annoyance. He looked so calm and collected, almost like a tiger circling his prey. His uncle had on his signature fake smile, almost sure there was no way Yuri cold bag a girl nor get anyone pregnant. Of course, Yuri had his own plans, not that he would share that with his cunning uncle. Suddenly, the thought of Pitch's moan flashed in his memory like haunted puppets, coming and going as they please.

'Listen uncle, the past three weeks have been crucial for the media. Even then, you never wasted any opportunity to defend me. I wanted to thank you by buying dinner at the Soleil this Friday. Its a pretty expensive place for a man with sophisticated taste buds like yours", he milked the sweetness out of his words all the while wanting to choke himself.

They both knew his uncle would never waste a chance to malign him.

"Of course, always know that i have your best interests at heart, my dear nephew. I always will", Ted replied

Yuri nodded a little, and forced a smile as he lazily in spun his chair. Ted nodded, a final note before he left the room. Yuri took a deep breath with an evil glint in his eye. The deer took the bait, all he need was one more thing in place. Pitch.

Meanwhile, Patrick and Rodrica were set to arrive this evening after weeks of vacationing. Somehow, Marisa and I had not murdered each other. That was a good thing, honestly, because either way Pitch knew she would be the one in the grave win or lose. Strangely, Marisa had never bothered her after that night, in fact she had made Pitch swear never to talk about the fact that she sneaked out to a club. Not that Pitch was hoping to relive the memory of that night. She would rather forget all about it and focus on getting into school. It was her only chance of leaving home and building a life for herself especially with he scholarship opportunity she had been given. She had already received her acceptance news yesterday from New York University, which was far on the other side of the country and was waiting to share the news with everyone.

The revving of an engine outside pulled her from within her thoughts and she gulped when she heard Marisa scream her head off. In walked Papa and Rodrica, her eyes looking like dirt bags and lips swollen like they'd been permanently sucked on. Her face contorted immediately into disgust when she saw her and she wanted to shrink and disappear at the sight of the look.

Marisa however was clinging to Papa like a sloth, almost like her life depended on it. Pitch could feel the shiver ran up her hands as she sidestepped them to grab their luggage.

'Welcome Papa and Aunt Rica", she whispered ever so sweetly. Not surprised at the lack of response, she made her way into their room. Few minutes later, she returned with some water. Aunt Rica grabbed a bottle all the while giving her the sting look.

"I hope you didn't get yourself into any kind of trouble!", he said as she took a sip. Pitch shook her head eagerly. Happy to not have to deal with any of this in a few months.

"Papa, I got into NYU for a Bachelors in Business Management", she whispered quietly.

"uh yeah, I don't really care, as long as I don't have to pay a cent for that ", he said with a clear of his throat. Marisa and Rodrica had a long of envy on their faces, it was evident that they were already thinking of sabotaging this so they could her at home as a personal slave forever.

Not wanting to upset them or ruin her happy moment, Pitch nodded quietly. "I'll go to bed now", she immediately said as she escaped into her room. She was determined to go to NYU in the next 5weeks.

So much for wanting a scandal-free month. One week later, on the very last day of the month of June and less than a month away from NYU, Pitch sat on the couch, heart beating erratically in her chest as the dreaded video played. A video she had no knowledge of, a video that was sure to ruin her forever. From that night. Even in her foggy recollection of it, Pitch was something was different. It just didn't feel right. However she couldn't explain nor refute it. How do you tell your father that you slept with a man, and even though you didn't remember his face or name, somehow the people in the video was not you or him? Everyone had a look of disdain in their eyes and Pitch could have sworn, she could eat rat poison to escape this moment. Patrick turned to look at Pitch with disgust. Even though he would never admit it, he couldn't help but notice that his daughter was a clone of his wife. From her beautiful emerald eyes down to her pouty lips, she was a replica of Eleanor. The name brought back unwanted memories that made him visibly gag. He was so over the woman, or so he liked to think but somehow she still found a way to slip into his thoughts and invade his senses every now and then. Wretched woman!, he thought. The anger was erupting like a swarm of angry bees and Patrick was getting tired of trying to reel it in so he did the only thing he was good at. Lay it all on Pitch like a spread of cold butter.

"I knew you were just like your horrific mother, that's why I kept eyes on you and Marisa", he almost shouted at Pitch. Her throat clogged with tears and her nose flared as he continued, "Oh Marisa, my sweet sweet girl. I'm so glad she didn't corrupt you. Is that what NYU was about? leaving home and doing whatever you please with boys?"

Marisa had a small victorious smile on her lips as she hugged Papa.

Feeling caged, she gulped down the tears, waiting in horror as she felt her dreams of NYU slip into nothingness. She held on to the last strings of hope desperately wanting this whole night to be a nightmare. At least if she could wake up to a different reality, it would have been worth it. Her heart shattered completely at his next words, darkness engulfed her as the words echoed in her ears. Right before she fainted from exhaustion.

"You will never leave this house. And you can forget about NYU"
