Chapter 7 - 7. the choice

(Tang san pov)

While Su Yuntao and Village Chief Jack discussed the academy recommendation.

Tang San stood quietly nearby.

Although he remained expressionless, his mind was anything but calm.

Through Su Yuntao's explanation, he had finally learned several important things about this world.

Soul Masters.

Spirit Hall.

Nuoding Academy.

If he wanted to understand this unfamiliar world

He had to attend the academy. However, Tang San lowered his eyes.

His family had no money.

Ever since arriving in this world, he had relied on his own efforts to support himself and his father. There was no possibility that Tang Hao could afford academy tuition.

Fortunately.

Every village possessed a single work-study student quota.

Students selected for that position would have their tuition waived in exchange for helping the academy with daily chores.

The problem was there was only one quota.

Tang San glanced toward Su Yuxuan.

He wasn't the only child who had awakened soul power today.

Su Yuxuan had as well.

Although his innate soul power was only level three, He still qualified to become a soul master.

More importantly.

Su Yuxuan was Village Chief Jack's adopted grandson.

If Old Jack wished to favor him no one in the village would object, Tang San hesitated briefly before walking over.

"Brother Yuxuan."

Yuxuan turned with a smile "Brother San."

Tang San organized his thoughts "I wanted to ask about the work-study–"

Before he could finish speaking Yuxuan smiled gently "Brother San, That position is yours."

Tang San blinked "What?"

Yuxuan spoke calmly, without the slightest reluctance.

"My innate soul power is only level three."

"Yours is full innate soul power."

"You have far greater potential than I do."

"If anyone from Holy Spirit Village has a chance of becoming a famous soul master"

He smiled sincerely.

"It should be you."

"I believe you can carry the village's hopes."

"Perhaps one day You might even become a Soul Sage."

Tang San froze, The words he had prepared never left his mouth.

In his previous life, he had dealt with countless people.

Most would fight fiercely over opportunities that could change their futures.

Especially children.

At six years old, most would cry, argue, or refuse to give in.

Yet.

The boy standing before him simply smiled as if the matter were insignificant.

Tang San's impression of Su Yuxuan changed slightly "He's surprisingly mature." He muttered

A faint smile appeared on Tang San's face.

"Thank you."

"I won't waste this opportunity."

"I'll work hard, Brother Yuxuan."

Yuxuan chuckled "I'll look forward to that day, Brother San."

The two boys smiled at one another, Neither realized how different their futures would become.

(Su Yuxuan pov)

A short while later, Old Jack finished speaking with Su Yuntao and walked over.

He looked at the two children with a warm smile.

"Have you both thought about it?"

Before Tang San could answer, Yuxuan spoke first.

"Grandpa Jack."

"I've already discussed it with Brother San."

"The work-study position should go to him."

Old Jack looked surprised.

"Yuxuan"

Yuxuan nodded.

"Brother San's innate soul power is much higher than mine."

"If anyone can cultivate farther, it's him."

"I can still attend Nuoding Academy later as a regular student."

"There is no need to waste the village's only recommendation on me."

Old Jack stood there in silence.

After a moment He slowly nodded "You're right."

Although he had always intended to let Tang San use the quota because of his extraordinary innate soul power, hearing those words from Yuxuan himself still moved him deeply.

"What a sensible child"

Old Jack thought with satisfaction.

"He always considers others before himself."

Tang San also looked at Yuxuan once more as his gratitude became a little more genuine.

"I'll go tell my father."

With that, Tang San hurried toward the blacksmith's house.

Only after his figure disappeared into the distance did Old Jack let out a long sigh.

"That stubborn Tang Hao"

"I hope he doesn't ruin the child's future."

Turning toward Yuxuan, he smiled gently.

"Let's head home."

---

The grandfather and grandson walked back together.

The afternoon sun bathed Holy Spirit Village in a warm golden glow.

After returning home, Old Jack set down his walking stick.

"Yuxuan."

"I'll go talk to Tang Hao."

"If that drunk refuses to let Tang San attend the academy then I'll drag him there myself."

Yuxuan laughed "Be careful, Grandpa."

Old Jack snorted.

"Hmph."

"That irresponsible father deserves a scolding."

Watching the old man leave, Yuxuan quietly closed the courtyard gate.

The house became peaceful once more, He took out the fresh Soft Bone Rabbit meat he had bought from Huang Zhikai yesterday.

Soon.

The fragrant aroma of roasted meat filled the small courtyard, Yuxuan turned the rabbit over the charcoal, smiling to himself.

"Everything went exactly as planned."

He had given up nothing of value.

The work-study position had never been necessary for him, His family's inheritance was more than enough to cover tuition at Nuoding Academy.

He could simply enroll as an ordinary student.

In exchange.

His innate soul power had risen from level three to full innate soul power.

Exactly the same level as Tang San.

Thinking about today's harvest, the smile on Yuxuan's face widened.

"I gained everything and lost nothing."

As the rabbit fat sizzled over the fire, Yuxuan looked toward the distant horizon.

Nuoding Academy.

His journey as a soul master was about to begin.

Unlike Tang San.

He would walk through its gates as an ordinary student.

A student whose true talent remained known only to himself and to the mysterious system that had quietly changed his destiny forever.
