"What do you mean?" Tessa Caldwell struggled with her hands.
"Don't you know you're married? Recently, there was a news story about a newlywed wife who cheated and was imprisoned at home after her husband cut off her legs."
The room fell into a moment of silent death. Tessa's eyes widened in shock as she turned to look at Faye. Her small face was ashen, seeming both stunned and fearful.
Faye's thin lips curved into an arc as he stood up straight, watching her fear with interest.
Suddenly, he chuckled lightly, "Scared you, just joking."
But there was not a hint of humor in his eyes, which only seemed to mock amusement.
Tessa was indeed startled by him, yet her mind hadn't caught up. When she realized what he meant, as Faye smiled, she instantly transformed from a terrified kitten into a fierce tiger.
She raised her claws at him: "Who got scared? We aren't real spouses, in three months we're divorcing, after that, meeting again makes us strangers."
