Chapter 3 - Chapter 2-Arriving at Orario (re uploaded after edits)

Fanning out amongst the moss speckled trunks, the group searched for the perfect spot to camp. Thinking he had spotted somewhere promising Nerues leapt forward excitedly, his tail swishing uncooperatively beneath his feet upon landing. He yelped in pain. Startled, a bird shot out from a thicket colliding with the distracted Logar. The bird flapped frantically as Logar swung his head in effort to shake off his assailant, lodging one of his horns between a pair of branches. Noticing this, Vargr rushed to his aid only to become acquainted with the sprouts and fallen leaves that littered the ground. In the rush, his new legs pushed almost too powerfully into each step causing him to stumble comically. Arina giggled, delighted to witness this showcase of the group's sudden clumsiness. Already at home in her new but similarly sized body, she scampered on picking her way artfully through the lush undergrowth. Eventually, the dense trees petered out creating a break in the canopy overhead and a small clearing below. Spotting this, Arina beckoned the others who made their way (no more elegantly than before) over to the potential campground. After agreeing on this site, the group split up once again in hopes of finding something, anything to make their first night a little more agreeable. Collectively the group crossed their fingers that they had not simply been abandoned with nothing to aid them in this new world.

Each returning to the clearing, they compiled their hopefully helpful finds: Vargr and Arina brought back wood and stones for a campfire; Nerues brought back some purpled fruit he had seen growing on the occasional tree nearby while Logar -however- brought back items that seemed much more advantageous. Logar had returned with a triumphant look, carrying with him four leather backpacks. The group scrambled to take one each, unbuckling them eagerly. Inside each was some basic food rations and clothes that seemed to match the outfits each of them wore. However, something that more firmly gripped the group's attention had been placed in a pile in the centre of their camp: basic adventurer gear. With a questioning gaze Vargr asked "Logar, where did you get these? ''.

"It was all just a couple minutes away from where we woke up; with the bags," Logar gestured towards the pack each of them had been going through," and so I assumed it matched what we all asked for as I got my kite shield and longsword." He held up each item proudly as he spoke. "While from what I remember this is extremely basic adventurer gear it'll be a huge help in getting us started" Logar grinned. With the group now looking excitedly at the pile of gear each hurriedly went over to grab the items that fulfilled their requests: Nereus a short bow, Arina two short swords and finally Vargr who sighed "guess a great sword was a bit much of an ask along with these". He showed off a pair of gauntlets and armoured boots before avidly trying them on.

After a short frenzy of mock duelling, aimlessly swinging blades and targetless arrows the group pondered their next moves. The group decided that it was too late to start trying out the new gear and that sorting the fire and food for the night was the better option and would allow them all to rest and talk before the days of travel ahead. It did not take long for the food to have been made and everyone to settle around the fire having made makeshift sleeping arrangements, luckily it would only take a few days to get to Orario and so the discomfort would be short lived. Sitting around the fire they started to inform the others of less obvious changes such as Logars tattoo of a skull on his left shoulder, snake with skull on his neck and the new scars he chose especially his very scarred knee, with the prompting from Logar, Nereus showed off his own tattoo that was a nice looking ace of spades card that he had tattooed on his right shoulder that was accompanied by the words "One life, one chance" to which earned a response of "oh very nice" from Logar. Much to the twos dismay Vargr explained how other than the marking on his face he had no tattoos to speak of but plenty of body scars (earning back at least some respect in the twos minds for him) to try and show he would have been training to help with explaining their history to any who asked, after a few minutes of silent gazes the current silence was interrupted by a cough from Arina. "So...I get that we want to discuss what happened but this is a chance none of us expected so I don't want to dwell on the past, not to mention I assume none of us really know what happened other than being caught by the building that started collapsing without any warning" followed by a round of sighs and nods all the others seemed to understand the sentiment about how bringing it all up would just cause unnecessary stress and that they all indeed had no other information about their deaths.

The grumbling of Logars stomach seemed to drag the group's minds from their dreary thoughts reminding them that those thoughts would only cause them to suffer in the long term and so for now to focus on eating and enjoying what they do have. They all went back to the more casual conversations while eating such as how the woods air was so fresh and about what sort of food, they remember seeing that they wanted to try out. The conversations continue like this until Vargr asked the group "What did you guys wish for btw", drawing all of the group's attention they decided that it would be more exciting to not reveal all of the wishes that they had asked for as seeing how they come around would be more fun, but did all disclose the information that they all used a wish for the ability to level up faster. The ability to level faster was a must in the groups mind when remembering how some spent a lifetime as level one in this world, however they were all informed by the god that unfortunately these skills would not be as strong as the skill used by Bell Cranel not to mention each person when talking about their wish for the skill seemed to get the impression that they would work differently but wouldn't be able to know for sure until they can see it for themselves. After the discussion everyone settled down for the night and before long the wave of exhaustion washed over the group, as the empire of the fire burned out though the night the group slept peacefully with dreams of the possibilities of growing stronger and exploring the dungeons.

The next few days passed rather smoothly for the group travelling and sleeping in the woods on the way to Orario, the days in the woods that's always allowed for such a clear view of sunsets and rises but enough cover giving the feeling of safety and the evenings that they shared of sitting round sharing their hopes for the journey not to mention the multiple play fights that occurred between Vargr and Nereus leaving a few bruises and marks here and there but always a good air afterwards between the two even if that did mean leaving Logar to carry the two back to the campfire due to exhaustion from the running around. It took a day more than expected due to testing each other out to see who would fit where when it finally came to fighting monsters in the dungeon. The results were clear from the beginning but in terms of stats which is what they found easiest to explain, Logar would have the highest base endurance, Nereus had a higher dexterity than most hence his skill with the bow, Arina was the nimblest and so took the claim of best agility for herself leaving the strength to Vargr however the title of strongest magic user could not be seen due to no one possessing any magic so far at least, as everyone hoped to get some eventually. In terms of other roles though, Nereus had the best perception with his cat like eyes, whereas Vargr had the better scent perception while also being the fastest runner, Arina was the best on her feet however and beat him in terms of obstacle races and finally even though his strength was not the highest Logar held up very well against attacks and even from Vargr. The group roles were set as such: Nerues was the eyes of the group and had a rear role just far enough to use the short bow effectively, Arina was a damage dealer never fully frontal but would aim for enemies' sides or try to deal with the weaker ones then join in, Logar would take the role as captain of the group and handle the focus of the enemies when possible as his shield and high endurance made him better for this meanwhile Vargr would also be a frontal fighter dealing with what was needed though his rune on his face made the group worry about a set role and so would have to wait and see. However, none of this was set in stone for the group as only time would tell if this would work on the monster and if it would be that simple to fight creatures coming from non-combat-oriented lives.

At midday of the 5th day the group finally arrived within the view of the city gates for Orario, the entrance to their new lives, the city walls towering over them and the other building inside except a few and of course the building that all their eyes were stuck to...The Dungeon. The Dungeon is a place for those blessed by the gods to explore, fight enemies, grow stronger and earn riches; it is the place of adventurers. Slowly walking towards the city gate, they joined the end of a queue that seemed to be formed by the crowd as each person was being inspected and questioned before entering as you would expect from a city that housed Gods and adventurers. The group felt a moment of worry as they were nearing the front of the queue after hearing a few people needing to present ID, however all of that stopped when the guard finally spoke in a more friendly manner to them than they had heard before. "Can I ask what bring four teenagers such as yourselves to Orario", "We are here to sign up to become adventurers" replied Logar with almost a tint of pride for the occupation he wanted to join, seeing this the guard smiled at the group "and so I suppose your all new here then" taking a moment to glance at the other guards and back to the group "And would not be able to provide ID in that case then". They all went silent and dropped their heads, that was until a chuckle seems to escape a guard at the side "Ugh god damn it, again man'' the main guard sighed seeming to guess that his joke was now up due to his subordinate "Don't worry you just need to go to the guild, it's hard to miss it and you can register there" after a pause now noticing the slightly unpleasant faces of the four " I'm sorry it's just when you've been working here as long as I am you have to find some sort of way to make some entertainment for the long days'' reaching into his pocket and withdrawing a slip before handing it to Logar "Here as a thank you for the entertainment and an apology this letter should help you lot with making your process quicker to clear with the guild and get you ID sorted". The four now seeming to have accepted the gesture thanked the guards and set forth to the guild. Having taken their first steps now in Orario the dream of new lives seemed that much closer and more possible, if not for the stares they were receiving from passers-by for having stopped and now just staring and smiling at everything they would have run to the guild but opted for walking to not create a scene.
