Chapter 16 - Chains and Bodies to the Rescue

The air was light with soft summer breeze as it also hung with the smell of rotting flesh that you could almost taste its pungent remanence on your tongue.

Maya sat up with a wrenching headache, her vision blurry and memory fuzzy. As her vision finally focused, she gasped in surprise at her scenery. She was in a weird room with cages dangling on the ceiling like the one she was in right now. She scrambled to her knees, almost falling back into unconsciousness due to the speed. Running her hands through her blonde hair, she scanned her surroundings. The room below her was just like the one Sally had described to them; a green hue coming from a big cauldron, bodies hanging from ropes around her, and she spots her sister, Amy, her body already decomposing. Her throat grew dry as she recalled the last time, she saw her sister as tears threatened to poor from her eyes. Biting her lips, she sniffed and looked around, finally spotting Adrien. She gasped as she took in Adrien; He was in the middle of fighting something that wasn't there, his clothes drenched in his own blood and green goo. "Adrien!" Maya whispered yelled, causing Adrien turn in her direction, his expression changing to dread before he was knocked into a shelf that contained weird body parts. Adrien slumped down, his eye lids falling closed. Trying to visually recover strength, he reached for a nearby jar that contained eyeballs and threw it at an unknown force and the jar crashed in midair, finally covering parts of the unseen creature which looked horrifying as well as it was small. Finally gaining little strength back, she falls back and kicked at the cage door repeatedly which only caused a dent. With all the desperation she had in wanting to get out of this hell of a place, she kicked ad kicked again, managing to blast the cage door of its hinges, the door flying across the room and hitting the wall. The monster looked up, only outlined by the green goo. While it was distracted, Adrien got up weakly, charging for it and flinging it into the glowing cauldron. Sighing in relief, Adrien collapsed to the floor, clearly exhausted. "Adrien, I'm coming!" She yelled once more, her voice bouncing off the walls. She looked outside the cage down to the floor to see she was 20 feet away from the ground. In shock she fell back into the cage again, banging her head on its metal bars. She hissed as the pain subsided a bit. A weird squishing sound was then heard, causing her to scramble to her feet and look out the cage to the cauldron where a creature was emerging. Not the small sized one of before, but an even bigger monstrosity.

This one was at least visible, but Maya really wished it wasn't, with it being only a huge green glob with no legs and leaving a green slime trail behind whenever it slithers away. It was slowly approaching an already drained Arien who had a broken wooden board poised up in defense. Maya was still searching around for any sign of the possibility of her getting down there in time to at least keep Adrien alive.

She then noticed that there was a dead body hanging a lot lower than the cage she was in. She lunged out of her cage and grabbed a hold of the chain that was a few centimeters from the cage and slid down to be standing directly on the head of the dead body that hung on the chain. She heard the scull of the already decomposing body crack and she winced at the sound. The monster looked up at her due to the sound, Adrien using that opportunity to pierce the monster with the wood. It didn't really do anything butat least it could slow the monster down a bit.

The monster roared in fury as it flung some goo from its skin on Adrien, causing the boys skin to sizzle as he fell on the floor in agony while holding his forearm. Adrenaline pumped in Maya as she continued the same method over and over again, swinging from chain to chain and flinging so many bodies and skeletons in the process. The rattling had the monster confused on who to attack that before she knew it, she was tumbling on the floor near the cauldron. She ran to pick up a jar full of a strange blue liquid, screwing it open and pouring the unknown liquid on the blob. The monster didn't even scream as it immediately turned into a puddle of green goo at her feet.

Throwing the jar and cork to the side, she rushed over to a hunched over Adrien.

"What the hell is this goo?!" Adrien yelled as Maya took his arm and inspected the burn. The skin where the acid goo touched was as deep a burn as 3 strong acids put together.

"How am I meant to do you big fool for brains. I don't even know how we ended up here." Maya grumbled as she began to rap up the burn over and over again with gauze and a random cloth she found in her pocket.

As Adrien was about to talk again, a very familiar voice rung out.

"We're a long way from camp."
