Chapter 19 - The truth

Rain drops softly tapped on the windshield. The rain made the visibility a little harder but it hid the two that were inside perfectly. Even though it was damp outside, the weather was still pretty warm.

The inside of the car was surprisingly updated. There was a navigation screen on the dashboard and electric seat warmers in the leather seats. Clara sat crisscross and tapped quickly and methodically on her sticker-filled laptop.

"Are you actually doing homework at a time like this?" Cyra questioned.

"You do realize that we missed two days of school right? I'm not trying to lower my grades, I have perfect marks right now." She didn't look up as spoke. "We haven't even started to work on our coding project yet."

Cyra reached into the backseat and pulled out a black bag, inside was an emasculate laptop. He opened it and clicked and clacked his password and turned it to Clara while clicking on a file.

"What is that?" She asked, studying the foreign lettering and numbers on the screen.

"The coding project." He grinned a half-smile.

"Wait what?" She grabbed the laptop from him and put her face close to the screen. "You finished it? How? When?" She searched for errors but found none.

"About 10 minutes after it was assigned." He took it back from Clara and shut it.

"Impressive. But I'm still going to get higher marks in that class, you are fairly warned."

Cyra touched her cheek with the back of his fingers lovingly. "I wouldn't doubt you."

"We are supposed to be watching for our guy." Clara reminded.

Hours passed and Clara was starting to get drowsy. She yawned and her eyes got heavy. Cyra pulled a small blanket out of his bag and draped it over Clara. "I'm not tired." She lied. She pulled the blanket to her face and eventually lost the battle to keep her eyes open. The tip tapping of the rain lulled her out of consciousness and before long she was fast asleep. Cyra stayed alert and watched all of the entrances for any sign of activity.

After some time had passed Cyra shook Clara awake. "There's our guy" he said pointing at the small broad figure that was walking towards a modest looking red car. Even with the windshield covered completely by rain, Clara recognized that the figure in front of them belonged to the short thug from the warehouse.

They trailed the car for a little over a mile before it pulled into a parking lot of a large chain-grocery store that had closed many hours ago. Cyra turned quickly to the right as to not seem too obvious that they were following him. The man got out of the car and walked towards them.

"I know your follow'n me, come on out here and tell me who you are. Do I owe yous money? Let's talk like gentleman eh?"

Cyra stepped out of the car with as much grace as a celebrity exists a limousine while Clara nearly tripped over her seatbelt.

"Do I even know you? Did I screw ya girl or someth'n?" He laughed. "Hey, if I laid this on her she must have been ask'n for it! And no offense sweetheart but I don't even rememba yous."

Cyra was getting visibly irritated with the man. "Moe, am I right? You go by many other alias's but that's your birth name, correct?"

"Nobody calls me by my government name 'cept my mama!"

Cyra reached into his pocket and Moe flinched for his pocket as well, presumingly for a gun, but Cyra waved him down and showed the wallet. Moe relaxed once he realized that Cyra wasn't reaching for a weapon. He threw the wallet at Moe's feet.

"Where was the last place that you remember having that wallet? Maybe an abandoned warehouse?" Cyra asked.

It took a moment before Moe understood what Cyra was hinting. He isn't a very smart person and when he finally put it together he reached for his gun again and Clara brought her hands up as well. Sparks flickered from her palms. "I wouldn't do that if I were you." She warned.

"We just want answers Moe, not trouble. Why did Emor send you to betray me? And more importantly, how do I find him." Cyra demanded.

"What? Nah, he didn't betray yous. I got a tip that there was bout to be a hand off. I didn't even know what a moon-whatever, was. But I knew it hads to be someth'n good if Emors was interested. We'd steal it from yous and sell it to Emors ourselves. Fool proof." Moe explained proudly.

"So... you stole from Emors?" Cyra asked, confused and irritated.

"Huh? No? I stole from yous." Moe looked as if he had used every last one of his brain cells on this conversation.

"But you do realise that it was Emor's deal and you interfered with it? You can't possibly believe that he'd be ok with that." Cyra strode angrily to Moe as he spoke. "You put me in a very uncomfortable position. Emor will be upset with both of us you imbecile!" Cya's hands began to spark viscously and he smiled menacingly. He grabbed Moe by the neck, his other hand flickered with lightening bolts.

"Cyra." Clara gasped.

"I should blow you to smithereens but I think Emor would have better plans for you!" He dropped the small man and he staggered to his feet.

"Yoou... you're the devil, man!" Moe shrieked while he stumbled to get into his car.

Cyra's hands were still crackling furiously with electricity as he watched Moe speed off. Clara gently placed her own hand in Cyra's. He looked down at her piercing blue eyes and his sparks slowly extinguished. He expected her to be disgusted with him and his behaviour but he only seen kindness and compassion in her eyes. "We'll figure this out." She said, confirming the empathy that Cyra sensed.
