Chapter 22 - Star Wars: Secrets

Tommy Oliver:

The stormtroopers start shooting, but Starkiller and I move fast. Dashing forward, turning himself into a blur, Starkiller appears in front of the stormtroopers. Swinging his lightsabers, he kills more than half the squadron already. As a trooper raises his blaster, I place the barrel of my blaster against his helmet and fire.

Seeing the trooper fall, the others turn to me, but I flip my plasma sword, the bright yellow blade flying through the air as I cut a trooper to the floor and stab the final one in the chest. Pulling out the sword, I look at Starkiller, who is also looking at me.

"What?"

"I have never seen a rebel fight like that before," Starkiller answers. Starkiller moves his eyes, and I follow them.

"He's looking at my plasma sword," I think. I look at my plasma sword, its yellow edge glowing brightly.

"My plasma sword," I ask. "What about it? This is a common weapon. All of us rebels can use them, but only a few do. I'm one of the few."

Sheathing my sword, I nudge my head down the destroyed hallway.

"Come on! The engine room is this way!"

Starkiller nods and follows me. Running through the hallway as the center shakes and more panels fall off, exposing damaged wires, Starkiller and I encounter more stormtroopers. Facing off against two with staffs, Starkiller uses the force to pick one of them up and throws him into the wall. Meanwhile, the trooper I was facing lunges forward. He tries to hit me with the tip of his staff, the end charged with electricity, but I counter with my sword. Swinging my weapon, I knock his staff into the wall before rushing forward and stabbing him in the chest.

Two more stormtroopers with staffs charge toward us from behind. Starkiller throws one of his lightsabers, his weapon spinning through the air before hitting and killing the stormtrooper. Meanwhile, I fire my blaster and hit the stormtrooper in his knee. He screams and drops onto the floor. Walking toward the downed trooper, he reaches down and pulls out a blaster. He fires off a round, but I block it with my sword. Firing again, I hit the stormtrooper and knock him flat onto the floor. As I spin my sword again, I sense Starkiller looking at me again.

"What?" I ask.

"You deflected his blaster fire," Starkiller says. "That's...impressive."

"Thank you."

Sheathing my sword, I run down the shaking hallway with Starkiller right behind me. We encounter many more stormtroopers along the way, but quickly kill them all before entering through a final door and into the engine room.

"This is wrong," I say as soon as we enter the massive room.

The command center's engine room should be non-stop movement and filled with electricity. However, most of the turbines are either destroyed or have stopped moving. The ones that are still spinning are smoking and sparking. Judging from the damage, they could give way any moment now. Besides the turbines, the room's energy cores are also sparking and fizzling. Despite being in protective shields, bolts of lightning would still shoot out, almost hitting Starkiller and me.

"We need to hurry," I say, "At this rate, the whole room will explode in minutes, and the command center will be left defenseless."

Starkiller nods and follows me. However, as soon as our feet hit the metal floor, a loud thud echoes, and immediately, a whole new squadron of stormtroopers reveals themselves. Most of the troopers are armed with blasters and staffs, but a few have jetpacks.

"Kill them," one of the troopers yells. Charging toward us, Starkiller attacks first. Shooting out his hand, he unleashes a lightning storm that paralyzes more than half of the squadron. Frozen now, he then pulls out his dual lightsabers. While Starkiller fights his half, I deal with one.

Spinning and dropping, I hit a stormtrooper in his leg, knocking him down before firing a round and hitting a trooper with a staff. Two stormtroopers fire at me, but with my plasma sword, I block their blaster fire before shooting and hitting them. Hearing roaring flames, I jump and roll out of the way before a jetpack stormtrooper can burn me with his wrist-mounted flamethrower. Shooting my blaster, I force the jetpack stormtrooper back into one of the generators. A bolt of lightning jumps out from the generator, hitting and electrocuting the stormtrooper. As we finish off the rest of the stormtroopers, I sense something and stop dead. I turn to Starkiller and notice how he freezes, too.

"You...can feel it, can't you," Starkiller asks. "The way you fight. How you deflected that blaster fire. You...sensing that. You...You're a...You're a Jedi, aren't you?"

I shake when I hear what Starkiller said. My fingernails dig into the palms of my hands. I grind my teeth and spit out some dust.

"No," I answer. "I am not a Jedi."

Hearing something else, the shout of someone screaming. It wasn't a stormtrooper's scream, but more a rebel's scream. A scared rebel. Now hearing a sizzling, Starkiller and I turn around just in time to see two people walking around a corner.

"No," Starkiller says, backing up when we see Darth Vader as one of the people. "No. No! You escaped! How?"

I turn and look at the hooded man standing right beside Darth Vader. He is wearing a black cloak with metal armor and has some sort of monitor on his chest. It looked like it was keeping track of his heartbeat. Quickly but without anyone seeing, I flip my hand over and aim my palm at the hooded man.

"Strange," I think. "No. No! It can't be."

I shoot out my hand and block Starkiller.

"Back up," I yell.

"What?"

"Back up!"

I raise my laser pistol and fire, but Darth Vader easily blocks each of my blaster shots. Using the force, he then rips my pistol from my hand. Now, only armed with my plasma sword, I raise it and prepare for a fight, but as I raise my weapon, Vader pulls out his lightsaber, the red glow hitting his black armor. The hooded man also pulls out his own red lightsaber.

"Who are you?" Starkiller asks, raising his two blue lightsabers.

"You don't know," I say. "You can't sense it?"

"What? What are you talking about?"

"Starkiller," I slowly start. "It's you."

Starkiller's mouth falls open. As if on cue, the hooded man lowers his hood and reveals his face. It is Starkiller! With the same face, the same hair, but a different set of eyes. Unlike the Starkiller next to me, the Starkiller next to Vader is dead. His eyes are flat and cold, as if they are made of glass.

"I--I dont'----I don't understand," Starkiller stutters. "H-H---How--"

"I lied to you when I told you the cloning process had not been perfected," Darth Vader answers.

"You need to run," Starkiller says. He tries to push me back, but I shake him off.

"No. I'm staying."

"He stays," Darth Vader says. "I must know who you are."

Walking toward me, Starkiller stands in front, but his evil clone dashes toward him. Even with one lightsaber, the evil clone is still strong enough to force Starkiller back. Jumping, flipping, and swinging his red lightsaber, Starkiller screams as he blocks each attack while waiting for an opening. With the two Starkillers busy, Darth Vader can easily approach me. He walks right up to me and swings his lightsaber.

Shooting my sword forward, I block Vader's swing and elbow him in the helmet. He screams as he stumbles back. Catching himself, Vader shoots out his hand and hits me with a force blast. Thrown into the air, I flip through it before landing on my feet. Pushing myself up, I charge toward Vader, but he shoots out his hand again. Feeling a strong grip on my throat, tightening it, I start choking. I try to grab at whatever is holding my throat, but I don't feel anything when I do.

Feeling lightheaded, my knees turning into jelly, I can't stop myself from falling onto the floor. Fighting for breath, opening my mouth, trying to inhale, I hear heavy footsteps and turn. Vader is standing above me, with his hand still outward. As Vader and I look at each other, I then feel a sharp pain in my head.

"Ahhh," Vader yells. He pulls back his hand and slams it against his helmet. Shaking it, Vader's breathing echoes as he looks at me again. "It's...you."

"You finally remember me," I say, rubbing my red throat.

"Vader!"

Turning, Vader and I see Starkiller jumping into the air with both his lightsabers pulled behind him. However, before Starkiller can swing them forward, his evil clone lunges in from the side. He hits Starkiller from the side. Starkiller falls to the floor, and one of his lightsabers rolls toward me.

Starkiller jumps back onto his feet. He tries to dash toward his evil clone, but his evil clone shoots out both his hands and unleashes a massive lightning storm. Starkiller raises his lightsaber to shield himself, but as Starkiller blocks his evil clone's lightning, he doesn't see Vader walking up from behind him. Before I can even do anything, Vader grabs Starkiller's shoulder and impales him with his red lightsaber.

"Nnooo," I shout. Turning, looking at Starkiller's lightsaber, I scream again.

"Aahhhh!"

Shooting out my hand, I use the force. Starkiller's lightsaber slams itself into my hand, and a bright-blue beam rises. I throw a force blast at Starkiller's evil clone. The clone is thrown into the wall. Dashing forward, my body turning into a blur for a few seconds, I appear in front of Vader and swing the lightsaber. Vader blocks it, his red lightsaber clashing against my blue lightsaber.
