"Boss, Xu Shi is here."
"I thought her meeting wasn't for a few days?"
"Well, send her in."
Wang Wei changed the tea set and also brewed a new pot. By the time he finished, Xu Shi—dressed in a beautiful white-and-blue hanfu—walked to his pavilion. Wang Wei motioned for her to sit, then served tea.
"Strange," Xu Shi thought. "Today, I can't read his emotions whatsoever." Usually, she can detect Wang Wei's mood or state of mind to some degree. But today, it was all empty, which only happened when he was in absolute control.
"So, what has gotten you so riled up?"
"Do you think that cultivators are inherently ungrateful?" Wang Wei asked.
"I don't think we're inherently ungrateful, but most of us chose to do so for various reasons — often because of pride or for the sake of benefit."
"Are you an ungrateful person?"
"...I would like to think I'm not. But I'm biased against myself." Xu Shi chuckled, but Wang Wei did not share her humor.
