Dragon King's Harem Chapter 374. Unpredictable II

Viperax remained where he was, the dying Ravager still in his grasp, but his focus was elsewhere. His thoughts churned, a storm of anger, confusion, and disbelief.

How could this have happened?

How could he, a king of the Lizard Tribe, have been out maneuvered by a mere beast?

It defied all logic, all sense of what he knew. Viperax's jaw clenched, his teeth grinding together as he struggled to reconcile the situation before him. His pride was wounded, and the uncertainty gnawed at him like a festering wound.

The Ravager struggled weakly in Viperax's grip, its cries growing louder and more desperate. The pitiful sounds grated on his already frayed nerves, each whimper like a needle pricking at his patience.

The creature's thrashing grew more frantic, its sharp claws scratching at Viperax's arm, though it lacked the strength to do any real harm. The noise, however, was intolerable, an incessant reminder of the mess he found himself in.

"SHUT UP!" Viperax roared, his voice booming across the swamp, shaking the very trees around them. His fury was palpable, a seething, boiling anger that had been building since the moment this hunt began.

Viperax's eyes blazed with rage as he tightened his grip on the Ravager, his claws digging deep into its flesh. For a moment, Viperax could see the fear in its glowing yellow eyes, the primal terror of a creature that knew it was about to die. But that fear did nothing to soothe his anger—it only fueled it.

"Enough of this," Viperax hissed through gritted teeth, his breath coming in harsh, ragged bursts. His massive hand, now trembling with barely contained fury, crushed down on the Ravager's throat. The creature's cries were abruptly silenced, replaced by a sickening gurgle as its windpipe was crushed beneath his grip.

The Ravager's body convulsed violently, its claws scrabbling futilely against Viperax's arm. The once menacing predator was now reduced to a desperate, dying animal, its life slipping away under the relentless pressure. Viperax could feel the bones in its neck cracking, the cartilage snapping as he squeezed harder, his face a mask of cold, merciless anger.

"Is this what you wanted?" Viperax spat, his voice low and venomous. He could feel the last of the Ravager's strength waning, its struggles growing weaker with each passing second. "To drag me out here, to waste my time, only to die like this? Pathetic."

The creature's eyes rolled back in its head, its body going limp in Viperax's grasp. He held it there for a moment longer. Viperax looked down at the dead creature with a satisfied smile.

But as the satisfaction settled in, the words he had just spoken echoed in his mind 'Is this what you wanted? To drag me out here, to waste my time.'

His grin faded, the realization hitting him like a blow to the chest. His gaze drifted away from the dead Ravager, and he slowly turned to look at the dark forest surrounding him. He was far from the camp—too far.

"Oh no…" he muttered under his breath, his actions dawning on him. His heart began to race as the implications set in. He had been so consumed by his rage, so determined to catch this elusive figure, that he had led himself and his soldiers deep into the swamp, away from the safety of their camp.

"The camp…" Viperax said, his voice barely above a whisper at first, but then louder, filled with urgency. "The camp! We need to get back to the camp!"

He spun around, his eyes wide with panic as he barked out orders. "Return to the camp! Now!" His voice was sharp, commanding, cutting through the stillness of the night.

His soldiers, who had been scouring the area for any remaining threats, immediately stopped what they were doing and turned to their king, their faces reflecting the same concern that now gripped Viperax's heart.

Without wasting another moment, Viperax took off in the direction of the camp, his legs propelling him forward with all the speed he could muster. The soldiers followed closely behind, their footsteps pounding against the soft earth as they raced through the dense foliage. Viperax's thoughts were a whirlwind of fear and dread as they ran.

'How could I have been so foolish?' he berated himself, pushing past low-hanging branches and leaping over obstacles in his path. 'I let that creature distract me, drag me away.' The thought of what could be happening at the camp while he was out here gnawed at him.

The forest seemed darker now. Viperax and his soldiers raced back toward the camp. Every rustle of leaves, every snap of a twig underfoot, felt ominous. His heart pounded in his chest, not just from the exertion of running but from the gnawing fear that gripped him. The silence around them was unsettling.

When they finally broke through the tree line and into the clearing where the camp was located, Viperax skidded to a halt. His soldiers followed suit, their breaths coming in ragged gasps as they took in the scene before them. The camp was eerily quiet, too quiet. The only sounds were the crackling of the dying fires and the whisper of the wind through the trees. There were no screams, no shouts, no cries of battle—nothing that indicated the life and activity that should have been there.

Viperax's eyes darted around, searching for any sign of movement, any hint of what had transpired in his absence. The tents stood where they had been left, some of them partially collapsed or torn. They also could see some splash of blood on the tent or ground, but there were no bodies. Not the monsters, the soldiers, or his wives.
