Dragon King's Harem Chapter 363. I See You As A Whole, My King

A huff escaped her lips. "I can understand that. Sometimes I feel the same way," she said, flicking her gaze at me. "But maybe not as bad as you. Also…" She cringed slightly, as if remembering something unpleasant. "I have four older brothers, which sucks. When you don't have any siblings at all," she added.

That made me chuckle. "They aren't annoying, Jyne. I can see your brothers are worried about you and want you to live happily. I can understand their actions. If… I had a little sister, I would also do the same thing. This world is not as beautiful as it seems, and marriages between royals more often end bitterly than sweet," I reminded her in a soft tone.

Jyne looked down at the table, her fingers tracing invisible patterns on its surface. She was silent for a while, lost in her thoughts. "True," she admitted quietly, her voice tinged with a hint of resignation. "I was afraid of that too."

She flicked her gaze back up to me, her eyes softening. "But... fortunately, I met you," she said, a small, genuine smile spreading across her face.

I smiled at her, even though I was holding back a cringe. 'Yeah, lucky you met me,' I thought. The notion of her falling in love with a random stranger was completely crazy to me. I couldn't imagine what might have happened if she had met someone less honorable. Someone who might have taken advantage of her naivety and trust.

Jyne had always struck me as someone full of light and warmth, but also with a touch of innocence that could be dangerous in the wrong circumstances. Following a stranger around, trusting so easily—it was utterly naïve. If I were a criminal or someone with ill intentions, her fate could have been disastrous. It was a miracle that nothing bad had happened to her during her adventures alone.

Jyne's world was full of ideals and dreams, a contrast to the harsh realities I had faced and learned to navigate. She didn't know the extent of the treachery and manipulation that existed in the world of royals and politics. Her brothers, for all their overprotectiveness, had tried to shield her from these harsh truths. And now, in my care, she was beginning to see the darker side of life.

I looked at her, her smile still genuine and bright, and felt a pang of protectiveness. Despite her experiences and the challenges she faced, she retained that core of optimism and trust. It was rare and precious, and I wanted to preserve it as much as possible.

She held my hand gently, her touch warm and reassuring. "And you know what makes me happy?" she said, her eyes searching mine for understanding.

I almost wanted to tease her, to say, 'Cause I wasn't a commoner? But a dragon king?' But I held my tongue, curious to hear her answer.

"I'm glad that you are a gentleman," she said, her voice sincere and soft.

Those words managed to make me chuckle, even though I tried to hold it in. Her frown deepened slightly, clearly confused by my reaction. "Is it because you saw what I did today?" I guessed.

"Yes. That's part of it," she admitted. "But it's more than that. It's how you carry yourself, how you treat those around you, even when they don't deserve it."

"You shouldn't judge someone by what they do in a single moment, Jyne," I reminded her gently. "You should see a person as a whole, not just one part of their story."

She looked thoughtful for a moment, her fingers still lightly holding mine. "You're right," she said quietly. "But sometimes, those moments can show us who someone really is. They reveal character."

Her words gave me pause. It was true that single moments could be revealing. They could show bravery, kindness, or cruelty in ways that a lifetime of actions might obscure. Yet, I knew better than anyone that even the best people had their moments of weakness, and the worst could have moments of grace.

"Jyne, there's so much more to a person than just their best or worst moments," I said, my voice carrying a hint of the wisdom I'd gained through my own experiences. "It's the sum of those moments, the choices they make consistently, that defines them."

She nodded slowly, absorbing my words. "I guess I'm still learning," she said with a small smile. "You've had to grow up so quickly, take on so much responsibility. It's different for me."

She leaned into me, her body warm and comforting against mine, and smiled. "But I'm sure… I see you as a whole, my king," she said in a spoiled tone, her voice soft and reassuring.

I couldn't help but smirk at her words. "Nice seduction, Jyne," I replied in a joking tone, hoping to lighten the mood.

My attempt worked, and her face lit up with relief, seeing my smile return.

"I'm glad your smile is back," she said again, her tone more serious. "You looked tense earlier, and I could tell you were stressed about what just happened," she admitted.

I hadn't expected her to notice me this deeply, to see through the layers of my royal demeanor and pinpoint the worry beneath. "It was not easy for me to entrust this dangerous mission to Al. Maybe… I'm just too worried," I said, either to calm her down or to comfort myself.

Jyne's eyes softened with understanding. "It's natural to worry about someone you care about," she said gently. "Especially when the stakes are so high."

Jyne's hand tightened around mine, anchoring me to the present. "You've made the best decision you could," she continued. "Sometimes, that's all we can do."

Her wisdom was comforting. I let out a long exhale. "You are right," I muttered. 'I can only hope everything will be okay.'
