Morning came and beams of sunlight peered through the curtains, Mary tried to cover her eyes but it was no use. Mary got up from the bed and looked around the room, Emily was still asleep as the sunlight didn't reach her side yet. Also Sara was asleep as well on the floor, there was a bowl of water with a towel beside it and Mary decided to freshen up.
Sara also woke up and saw Mary was already awake "Good morning" Sara said sleepily as she rubbed her eyes. "Morning" Mary said in a low voice like she was muttering, Sara then tapped on Emily's shoulder to wake her up.
Mary was already getting dressed while both Sara and Emily washed up, Emily then went to the other room to see if the others were already awake. Sara left the room and headed downstairs to the tavern and saw some people were already there enjoying their food and drink. "Sleep well miss?" one of the people that were working there asked as Sara passed by them.
"Yes we did thank you" Sara replied before she opened the door to leave the tavern. As she was leaving Sara bumped into someone hard causing her to fall on the ground, when she looked up she saw a man with his hand reached out to her. "I am so sorry" the man said.
Sara took his hand and was lifted off the ground, "It's alright" Sara said as she lightly dusted off her dress. The man paused at her and then smiled "I don't think I have seen you in this town before" he said and Sara nodded.
"That would be true, I just arrived with my sisters yesterday" Sara said and the man nodded his head.
"My name is Sebastian, I'm the head watchmen here" Sebastian said and sent a glance towards the owner of the tavern. "Well it was nice to meet you" Sara said before stepping aside, "Likewise" Sebastian responded.
Sara left the tavern and headed towards the fabric shop that they saw yesterday. She entered the shop and saw a middle-aged woman sitting in the corner mending dresses by hand.
She lifted her head when Sara entered the shop and smiled "Welcome my dear, feel free to browse around" she said and Sara nodded in response.
Sara eyed a few fabrics and it felt velvety to the touch, there was one fabric in particular that caught her eye. The pattern is what drawn her to it, Sara rached out her hand and felt the fabric between her fingers. It was soft and plush and others she had felt. But the pattern made the fabric looked fit for nobility.
A flashback entered her mind as she remembered being dressed in such fabrics. A time that seemed like a lifetime ago where she was surrounded by such things.
As memories flooded her mind, she remember twirling infront of a mirror and hearing a man's voice as he showered her with compliments.
A voice snapped Sara out of her memories and she turned to see that the woman in the shop by standing beside her. "I'm sorry" Sara said clearing her throat.
"I must have spaced out" Sara said as she chuckled and the woman smiled. "That fabric is a beauty but no one has even thought of buying it" the woman said with a sad tone in her voice.
Sara was confused by that statement "But it's beautiful" Sara said and the woman nodded. "Yes but one thing you need to be mindful about dear" the woman began to say.
Sara leaned in close as the woman continued "Here in Salem people believe in rumors more than in the truth" the woman said.
Sara's stomach turned, it was rumors that destroyed her life and now she brought everyone to a place where it can happen again. But it wasn't too late, they can still leave and go somewhere else. But where else could they have gone.
"I see" Sara said with no emotion on her face, "What's the rumor about that fabric?" Sara said pointing at the fabric again.
"Look who's asking the right questions" the woman said, "The fabric actually belong to the wife of the previous mayor" the woman began to tell the story.
"The previous mayor was actually wealthy and brought a lot of wealth to this town" the woman continued. Sara listened closely "The mayor really cared about this town, he even made a big port so lot's of merchant ships can pass here and sell goods". Sara nodded her head and it also explained the market that is set up here.
"I'm guessing the current one couldn't give this place a second thought" Sara said and the woman nodded in agreement "Even though it seems like it the mayor does care a little bit about this town" the woman said.
"I think I can tell how this story ends" Sara said as it sounded familiar to her own story.
"Alrighty aunt Bernadette, here is the last of the shipment that came in" a young man called out and entered the shop from the back. The woman smiled and turned towards the man. Sara also turned around and saw the young man and the woman talking.
Sara also noticed instantly that the man was shirtless and felt her cheeks go hot. Sara quickly turned away from them and tried to calm herself down.
Bernadette glanced towards where Sara was standing and then looked back at the young man and gasped. "Jon! How dare you come in here like that!" Bernadette scolded Jon. "Quickly go put a shirt on!" she said shooing him away and Sara breathed a sign of relief.
"I apologize for that my dear" Bernadette said and Sara shook her head and turned around. She could still feel her cheeks were warm when she looked at Bernadette.
"That boy sometimes doesn't use his head" Bernadette said to herself and then Jon reappeared again this time clothed and him and Sara locked eyes with each other.
Jon felt something stir within him as he looked at Sara, she was beautiful and somewhat had a elegant charm about her. He didn't feel like this with anyone but he could tell she was different.
Bernadette talked to her about something but Jon didn't hear what they were saying. After that he saw Sara leave the store and just like that he snapped out of his trance.
"So she was that stunning you couldn't put two words together" Bernadette said with a smug look on her face.
Jon looked at her and took a deep breath "I'm not entertaining this conversation" he said and left the shop.
