The minute the words left his lips, my chest tightened and I stopped breathing.

He simply said he loves me, didn't he? My pulse rapid stops all around me. I am perplexed; I am unsure how to respond to his disclosure. I look at him and his voice is still in my ears. He is still smiling like he is waiting for me to respond.

My mouth opened, but my voice was hesitant, unsure if speaking anything would destroy the delicate reality we were now in.

"Zyron. . . ," my voice sounded unsteady, and I quickly forced an awkward smile. Of course you love me as your best buddy, right?
But he reacted without delay and without uncertainty. "No."
