Argon didn't bother with the mansion's telephone. He wasn't sure where Gandrik was at the moment, and this wasn't news he wanted echoing through the halls.
He called his phone instead.
Gandrik sat in the lounge area of Ezekiel's room, a short distance from the bed. His eyes were closed, his back resting against the chair, his arms folded in front of him, and his breathing slow and steady. The night was quiet here, broken only by the faint sounds of guards shifting outside.
His phone vibrated.
He opened his eyes and glanced at his wristwatch. It was almost midnight. What could the beta be calling for? He reached into his pocket and checked the screen. Argon.
Gandrik stood, moving without a sound. He stepped out of the room, careful with his pace, and went toward the tall window at the end of the hall. His eyes scanned the mansion ground below as he finally answered the call.
"Yes?" he answered quietly. "What's the matter?"
