Chapter 14 - Strength Testing

Morning...

Steve woke up, sat up, and stretched. He then got up and ran away from the school fence. After he was about 3 kilometers from the school, he made himself visible again and ran to the front of the school fence at a reasonable speed. There, he greeted the school guards as he walked inside the school gate and into the school building.

Classroom 6-A...

There wasn't a lot of students in the classroom since it wasn't time for school to start yet, but Steve just got to his seat, sat down, and waited for his classmates and Mr. Blackwood to come into the classroom when class started. He had about 2 hours to kill, so he just sat there and opened a book to read.

After what seemed like a relatively short time to Steve, class started. Steve closed his book and put it away. Mr. Blackwood explained the rules of the battles again. They were going to have 3 vs 3 team battles today. The teams were chosen using a lottery, which was apparently supposed to make everything fair. It seems that the school doesn't mind the case where the lottery coincidentally groups up weak monster tamers together and strong monster tamers together and make everything unfair.

After Mr. Blackwood finished explaining everything, the students all went to the VR room (Yeah, I suck at naming so that's what I'm going to call the room from now on). The students all went into one Simulator capsule and activated the VRBS. Inside the VRBS, the students stood in front of a large screen. On the screen were 36 rectangles, each in groups of 3. The rectangles started to fill up with names.

After a few seconds, all the rectangles were filled with names. Mr. Blackwood told the students to get into their groups. After only about 30 seconds, the students had all gotten together with the people in their groups. Seeing that the students all got into their groups, Mr. Blackwood knocked on the screen. Then, the rectangles that were in groups of 3 all merged into one rectangle with the names of all the group members on them. The rectangle was then arranged in a tournament like fashion, 12 into 6, 6 into 3, 3 into 2, and 2 into 1. Most were easy to understand, just like normal tournaments of team battles against each other, basically elimination. As for how the 3 into 2 worked, well, like the solo battles, there would be one team left out and would automatically move on to the next round while the other 2 teams fought each other. After that, the students were transported onto the battlefield without any warning.

Steve, with his two teammates, Edwards and Stacy, faced off against a group of stage 1 monster tamers. After their brief introduction, their preparation time was up and the battle started. However, before Edwards and Stacy could properly tell their monsters to fight, Icy had already defeated their opponent's monsters, leaving their monsters standing there in a daze. After that, they were transported out of the battlefield, with Edwards and Stacy still shocked at how quickly the battle had passed.

When they got back out of the battlefield, they were the only ones there. However, it made sense that no one had finished the battle since the battle took about 5 seconds, which was significantly shorter than the preparation time they were provided with, which was a whole 30 seconds. Edwards, Stacy, and their opponents all looked at Steve, still stunned about what happened. They had question marks written all over their face, obvious that they wanted to know what the heck just happened.

Steve told them that he was lucky and Icy had somehow to broken through to level 30 bronze quality 5 stars the day before. They all nodded in understanding. After all, their monsters weren't even above level 20, and besides, plus they didn't even have a bronze quality monster. With such a difference in level, it was no wonder their monsters lost so quickly. While they were having their own thought experiments, Steve was communicating with Icy with his mind.

Steve asked.

Icy answered Steve with her mind.

asked Steve.

Icy answered.

Steve said with his mind. However, he was secretly thinking,

Steve and his teammates waited for their classmates to finish their battles. While they were waiting, Steve came to an agreement with his teammates that they would allow him to fight solo using Icy against the enemy so he could test Icy's strength after she broke through to level 30. They would only interfere and join the battle if Icy took longer than 30 seconds. In return, Steve would give both of them 100 credits for the trouble.

30 minutes was quickly up, and they got transported to the next battlefield. They faced a team of 3 stage 1 monster tamers, just like last time. And just like last time, their opponents were defeated in 5 seconds. They were transported out of the battlefield right after, and their opponents were still in a daze about what happened when they got out of the battlefield.

----------

Some time later...

Nothing really happened for the following battles. Icy just defeated all the monsters in about 5 seconds or less, and Steve's team easily got first place. Steve, Edwards, and Stacy all got 333.33 school credits as a reward for getting first place. As promised, Steve wanted to give 100 credits to both of his teammates, but Edwards and Stacy refused since they didn't do anything for the team battle, and they said that they already got enough compensation for their trouble from the reward provided by the school. As such, Steve could only give up on giving both of them 100 school credits.

Then, Steve logged off and went to find Mr. Blackwood directly. He told Mr. Blackwood that he wanted to give Charlotte and Charlene school credits but they refused and he wanted to let Mr. Blackwood transfer some of his school credits to them secretly. Mr. Blackwood originally wanted to refuse Steve, but Steve told Mr. Blackwood that they were siblings. After thinking about it, Mr. Blackwood agreed and took out his computer to transfer school credits.

There were a few ways students could transfer school credits. The first was by finding another student and giving them, with both of the students agreeing. The second was by finding the teacher and asking the teacher to transfer, but normally, the consent of both students was required. Steve's case was an exception. The third was by the teacher reducing or increasing their credits for instances like a penalty for being late and a reward for completing a certain assignment. The fourth was by assigning and doing tasks. There was a task board where students could ask other students to help them with a task, and there would be a certain amount of school credits the students would offer as a reward for completing the task. The fifth was by buying things from the school, like monster cards or renting a personal dormitory. The sixth was by getting rewarded for winning a certain tournament and other things, just like the one they had.
