All the fallen feathers present today were at One Talon. Yu Song, Gong Bo, Gongsun Tai, and Zhong Yuan were the former Sixth to Ninth Feather, respectively. They had lost their positions in the years before, so this was their chance to get them back.
Having once held those seats, they knew the privileges the academy offered its Ten Feathers. All ten enjoyed those benefits, regardless of rank. Regaining their former positions would be satisfying, but taking the tenth seat would serve their main purpose just as well.
That made the lowest seat an obvious target after the fight they had just witnessed. They could still become feathers without testing themselves against someone as strong as Xiu Yao. The trouble was that the person in the tenth seat had spent years dealing with challengers who wanted exactly the same thing.
