Inside the castle, all was quiet and still.
The people sitting around the fire, holding the flowers they had planted, did not speak. Only the occasional crackle of burning wood could be heard.
Ed added two table legs to the fire pit.
Unable to bear it, Eric said, "Add some more, make the fire bigger and warmer."
"What a joke, a bigger fire is warm, but it also burns through firewood," Ed retorted with displeasure, glancing at him. "If we burn it all, we'll have to go out again."
"Even if the fire burns slowly, this wood will eventually run out, and then we'll have to go out all the same," Eric replied. "We should bring back more tables and chairs."
Ed was a bit irritated. "Easy for you to say. Do you know how hard it is to gather a batch of wood? If you're so capable, you go gather supplies next time!"
Eric shrank his neck, blew a breath of warm air into his hands, and responded, "I'll go, just add some more wood, I'm really too cold."
Ed snorted, preparing to grab some wood.
