Chapter 33 - Insidious and Unexpected

Everything occurred in a matter of seconds and the 10 berserkers only had one goal: to break through and turn off the barrier.

Like an arrow, they dashed to the startled Blair.

Blair, unprepared for the change in the battlefield, only had a second to react; the distance between both forces was too close.

The speed of the elite berserkers gave her no time to retreat and their massive fist were already coming down on her.

In a single instant, Blair reacted instinctively.

She threw up her arms wrapped in blazing energy, forming a mana shield of sorts, like a transparent red-black coating that shimmered with her refined control, but the ten berserkers hit her like a battering ram.

The shield cracked and shattered, sending out a shockwave of corrupted mana, her arms falling limply to the side as she was pushed several meters back.

Their strength and numbers were too much to handle single handedly.

Regardless, she gritted her teeth and forced a ball of flames to burst under her feet as she launched herself back towards the elites as she sought to fight back; her weak arms were forcibly covered once again in her natural body armor and flames.

Her mana control was impressive for a rank 1 demon, but the berserkers didn't care; they were unarmored, but their strength was immense. Each berserker was over 3 years old and were at the pinnacle of strength that they were allowed to have in hell's 1st layer.

Not only were they physically stronger, but they have also trained profusely under Kaelgor's command.

"Bang!"

They slammed into her, their fists and bodies a blur of motion.

She barely managed to hold them off for a single moment before she was sent flying back, with the enemies chasing close behind.

The berserkers moved forward as a group, the weaker demons were blasted to the side, their fates unknown.

Each one looked like a moving mass of muscle as they bulldozed their way through the demons while being surrounded in a red hue. Their speciality was nothing like elemental control, but instead a powerful self-buff to their physical bodies.

Their speed and efficiency made it so that they quickly caught up with Blair's fallen body moments after she hit the ground; a quick and casual stomp was sent towards the dazed demoness head.

To end this annoying pest.

Agri, after seeing Blair, who was undoubtedly stronger than her, fall, charged forward with a roar of pure rage.

Her slender form fluidly moved through the mob.

With a swift and fluid motion, she grabbed the dazed Blair and threw her back towards Adam, and with her body a shield, she blocked the kick that was aimed to pop Blairs head.

"Smack!"

Clashing with the physically stronger demon, her body was sent rolling.

Feeling the coursing pain, Agri shouted in rage, stood up, and darted towards the leading berserker and unleashed a powerful kick, pushing the demon further back by a couple of meters.

Yet, as one demon was pushed back, another came in to fill in the space in the same instant with a single fluid movement.

A muscular arm replaced the spot where the leading demon was, forming a steel like claw as it slashed down at Agri.

The attack was unexpected, perfectly hidden behind the other demon.

The coordination of elite demons trained by the century old devil was something that bested most special forces of lower realms.

Powerful, ruthless, and unafraid of death; trained demon armies were a force of nature.

"Arghhh~" A piercing scream rang out as Agri stumbled back.

A deep wound was made on Agri's shoulder, cutting deep, through her collar bone, and into her chest cavity.

The pain was deafening, and her concentration was wavering.

She was only able to instinctively kick out when the demon neared; the berserker, only trying to make it to the nexus, casually slapped his arm towards Agri's leg, which then sent her flying.

Agri moaned out in pain as she looked at the massive tear on her thigh, her consciousness slipping, a puddle of blood forming fast under her lithe body.

The berserkers were unrelenting, their attacks a constant, brutal stream of power and precision.

Luckily for Agri, they didn't chase her weakened body, as the enemy group didn't care for the fights, as they were only trying to break through.

The last major road block at this point was Adam, since they were spotted before being close enough, and he was able to predict the enemies route.

He perfectly stood in their path, the injured Blair stood limply at his side.

A darker red hue of embarrassment graced her pale-red cheeks, not only from being injured the way she has, but also because of how she was thrown by Agri and caught like a rag doll by her lord.

Seeing the intimidating devil before them, the 10 still raced forward, not caring for Adam as they didn't need to fight him; only needing to break through and reach the nexus.

Death was certain for most of them, but their will was unwavering.

Rage filled Adam's eyes; every action and attack that Blair and Agri endured had fallen into his sight.

His arrogant gaze ignored the charging demons and lingered on the injured Agri, surprisingly noticing her being dragged back into the base thanks to some weaker demons.

Her safety assured for now.

It was only after that he returned his focus on the group of berserkers.

Their combined strength was daunting, leaving no time for a swift counterattack. Their huge bodies were about to break through the defensive line.

The defenses were failing, and the roughly 90 demons from before were already running behind the hundreds of weaker demons, being led by Kamir as they sought to overwhelm Adam once the barrier fell.

Understanding that he can't take any risk, Adam yelled at Roh to race back and turn the defense back on to 100%, closing the opening.

Roh, who was about to rush against the enemies, grunted in acknowledgment and darted back towards the alter.

Keeping the base and nexus safe was a the number one priority.

Winds change and earth shifts.

Within the tempest of war, change is bound to occur.

It was at this moment that an extra 5 elites sprung up from the left side of the opening.

A expression of shock finally grazed Adam's devilish eyes.

Burning with cunningness and intellect; Devils and Demons were to never be underestimated.

Kamir had sent two groups; 1 with 10 elites to spread out and converge at the right side. Then another of 5 to lay low and crawl towards the left. The group of 5 were fully armed, their cumbersome, metal bodies were now covered in dirt and blood from crawling on the floor.

The moment they saw Roh dash back, they knew that sneaking in was no longer an option. They sprung up in a single fluid motion, each armed with a long, black abyssal-steel halberd.

Their attacks all aimed at the unsuspecting scythe demoness.
