Kalista could not sleep.
She had tossed, turned, rolled, and even buried herself under the blankets, but her mind refused to quiet down. Every time she closed her eyes, the memory replayed like a scene determined to ruin her life.
Darenn.
His face.
That look in his eyes.
And that kiss.
Her pillow muffled the tiny, strangled sound she made. "Oh no, no, no, no… why did he do that?!"
She rolled onto her back and stared at the ceiling. The moonlight streamed softly through her window, far too romantic for her liking. "Ugh, stop being pretty, moon!" she hissed, pulling the blanket over her face again.
It didn't help. Because under that blanket, her thoughts were just louder.
Her cheeks burned as she remembered how his arms felt around her, how warm and steady his heartbeat was against her ear. She squealed quietly and kicked her feet like a schoolgirl. "This is so embarrassing!"
