Marko woke up lying in a field of tall green grass.
The sky above him was silent.
The only thing he could see in the distance was a small town.
Behind him stood the glowing door.
As he reached for it, the light suddenly vanished.
The door became an ordinary metal door.
He pulled it open.
Nothing.
On the other side was only more endless grass.
Confused and frightened, Marko had no choice but to walk toward the town.
As he got closer, he noticed people watching him from inside their homes.
Every face stared through the windows.
Without warning…
Every door opened at the same time.
The townspeople stepped outside together.
No one spoke.
No one smiled.
They simply watched him.
One man finally broke the silence.
"Kid… what's your name?"
"Marko," he answered.
The crowd exchanged strange looks.
Marko felt his stomach tighten.
Something about this place felt wrong.
Then three sheriffs approached from the direction of the field.
"My name is Sheriff Steven," the oldest one said.
"This is Sheriff Angie."
"And Sheriff Johnson."
Steven studied the frightened boy.
"We saw you come out of the field."
"How did you get here?"
Marko pointed behind him.
"Through the door."
The three sheriffs looked at one another.
Slowly…
They smiled.
"What door?" Steven asked.
Marko turned around.
His heart stopped.
The glowing door was gone.
In its place stood a police station.
"That's impossible…" he whispered.
He took a step backward.
The sheriffs stepped forward.
Steven's smile grew wider.
"Your name isn't Marko anymore."
Marko's breathing became uneven.
"You came from the grass."
The three sheriffs spoke together, their voices perfectly in sync.
"So from this day on…"
"…you shall be known as…"
"The Grass Man."
