The word good did not settle.
It lingered in the air like something unfinished, something that expected an answer Rue Yim did not have.
She didn't turn to look at Ye Jing-e.
Not immediately.
Because the path ahead was already shifting again.
The darkness no longer pressed in from both sides. It breathed now, expanding and contracting in slow, uneven pulses, as if the space itself were alive and undecided about its own shape.
Rue Yim took another step.
Then another.
Each one felt heavier than the last.
Not because the ground resisted her—
But because something inside her did.
"Keep going," Ye Jing-e said.
She stopped.
The words were simple.
Normal.
Too normal.
Her chest tightened.
"You've never said that before."
Silence.
She turned.
He stood where he had been.
Same posture.
Same stillness.
Same presence.
But something was wrong.
Not in his form.
In the feeling of him.
"You always told me to think," she said slowly.
