"BUT YOU JUST said that what Dahlia did was silly," Alice remarked. "That you had grander ambitions than eloping with the man you love."
"And who said it was to elope?" Rose pointed out. "Or that it was someone I held romantic affections for?"
Now Alice was confused. Who else could it be if not Rose Whitaker's beloved?
"I see why Prince Spade is interested in you," remarked Rose. "You're just as curious as he is."
She smiled slyly, retrieving a slip of paper from her sleeves, handing it over to Alice discretely.
"Meet me here if you wish to know more," she instructed.
"Why are you willing to share so much all of a sudden?" Alice asked, frowning. "We aren't exactly best friends."
Rose Whitaker, who had been preparing to walk away, suddenly paused and turned around. She looked at Alice from over her shoulder, her lips hidden by a smartly poised fan. However, Alice knew that whatever expression it was behind that fan, it was one that was sincere.
