But Yu Chen only mumbled, "Don't." and hid her face deeped in Oreo's fur. "Okay, okay. I'll stop." Xia chuckled, "And give him here. You're going to choke Oreo to death." He added, taking Oreo into his arms, who for the first time in his life looked like he was glad to get out of Chen's embrace.
Yu Chen blinked as her head cleared and the events of the previous night came rushing back to her. "What's the time?" she asked, looking at the wall clock in Xia's room to see that it was 7 a.m. "You can sleep for a little while more if you want, you still seemed a little tired." Si Xia said, putting Oreo on the ground, already guessing what was going on in Chen's mind.
Yu Chen shook her head and replied, "I'm fine. I'll go wash up and then let's go to the hospital. I really need to see if Xiao Hai is all right." Xia nodded and Chen stood up.
Yu Chen carefully walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped securely around her. She had forgotten to take her clothes in, but was relieved the see the bedroom empty and the door closed.
Just as Chen was beginning to look for the clothes she had worn the previous day, because she hadn't brought a change of clothes, she noticed something on the bed.
Yu Chen walked over to see a pair of jeans and a simple lavender female polo t-shirt laid carefully on the bed. They were her size and seemed to be brand new. Chen quickly pulled them on before heading down to the smell of Si Xia cooking breakfast.
"Hope you don't mind this. I just heated up yesterday's leftovers since I didn't think you would want to wait any longer than we had to." Xia said as he noticed Chen walk into the kitchen. He was also wearing a casual black button down paired with a simple denim jeans.
"This is perfect. Thanks!" Chen said as she slipped into a chair and dug into the first dish Xia placed in front of her. Si Xia chuckled as he also sat down after setting the table and giving Oreo his breakfast.
Yu Chen had hurriedly gobbled down her breakfast and got up, wiping her mouth and putting her plate in the sink. "It's a record." Si Xia spoke, looking up from his own plate at Yu Chen, who was now gulping down her second glass of water.
"What?" she asked, putting the glass in the sink too. "I think you're the first one ever to finish eating before Oreo. It definitely has to be a record." Xia spoke, a smile on his face.
Chen shrugged as she replied, "I really need to get to the hospital. I'll take a cab there and I'll come see you at you office in the evening." She was already looking for her wallet as she completed the sentence.
All traces of humor vanished from Si Xia's face as he got up and grabbed Chen's shoulders. "And what makes you think I'm letting you go there alone?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
Yu Chen placed her hands on his cheeks and gave them an assuring squeeze.
