Chapter 1 - The Gentleman

Nicolai POV:

Beautiful as she was in the dancefloor, she looked like a marionette performing a seductive dance. Her movements were almost sudden, awkward like her limbs were being controlled. Despite this, her lips pursed in concentration and her eyes closed, she truly looked like she was having fun. While everyone's energy was laced with lust and danger, she radiated innocence.

'A fallen angel,' I supposed as I watched her. There's no way a child of heaven dressed like temptation incarnate will 'accidentally' wander into in the devil's lair.

I've been at this bar for quite some time now just watching people and taking sips at my scotch. The drink was cool to the touch but felt like fire sliding down my throat. It's relaxing. Instead of making me jumpy, the alcohol in my system made me feel grounded. My head is slightly swimming, my thoughts are slower, but my mind is clear.

She opened her eyes and our eyes locked. I smiled at her. Hopefully she doesn't find me creepy for staring at her. She smirked and without gazing away walked towards me. I found myself mesmerized. I remembered the tale about sailors at sea. Her eyes were like a siren's song, if I don't look away, I'm afraid sooner or later I'll find myself drowning.

"Honey, what's a handsome man like you doing in a place like this brooding?" She slipped her arm into mine. I felt her breast rub a little against my sleeves.

"Want to hook up?" I asked bluntly. "I got a hotel room booked."

"I..." Her eyes were wide, she doesn't look as willing as when she was when she approached with the intent to seduce.

"Just kidding. Who knew that you'd be trying to seduce without any follow up?" I chuckled. I turned to the bartender and ordered a gin and tonic. There's no need to order a hard drink when you intend to enjoy a conversation.

"Hey mister, you're an interesting creep. I know you've been staring at me for quite some time..." She eyed me warily and took the stool next to me.

"What kind of character would you expect from a shady bar like this?" I gestured to all the strangers hooking up left and right.

"Not a weird one like you that's for sure." She huffed and ordered herself a lady's drink.

I nodded. "Well, I'm only as weird as you are. You're the one who approached me and tried to flirt. I only checked to see if you were offering yourself up. You weren't. How disappointing." I tried to put on my most dejected expression.

"You...‽" She clenched her fingers around her drink. I'm actually afraid it might crack under pressure.

I couldn't see the color of her face in the dim lighting but her feathers were definitely ruffled. I grinned. It's too easy to rile her up.

"Jerk." She muttered.

I'm sure she's still pissed but she won't be making a scene.

"Glad you know." I replied like I had given her good advice.

My interest in her waned. Her facade is not to my taste. I prefer my women quiet and simple, not a docile damsel in distress but one with more... class. I didn't expect to meet one from a trashy bar but a guy could hope you know? Maybe I'd get lucky a girl with the sex appeal of Aphrodite and the wits of Athena. Anyways, I go to the bar to enjoy a drink and beautiful women. I've had enough. I'm going home.

I excused myself and stood up to leave. Not even two steps later, the angel had grabbed my arm to stop me.

"Let's sleep together!" She exclaimed. "You've got a hotel room booked right?"

How the tables have turned. I kept a smile to myself. I didn't actually had one booked but I could book one. She looks like a good lay after all, a willing one at that.

We left the bar together. A small hotel was right beside the bar so we only had to walk. It was painfully awkward. I tried to make conversation but she seemed to be ready to fly away at any moment's notice.

By the time I had booked the room and we were inside, she looked ready to cry. She sat at the edge of the bed looking at me with her watery brown eyes.

"Hey..." I sighed. "You do realize that I'm not forcing myself on you?"

I sat myself in the couch near the window overlooking the city. It was a pretty good view for such a cheap hotel.

"I don't know your reasons for doing whatever you're doing. But you have got to stop this damsel in distress act. Any other guy and they might take your actions the wrong way you know? It might not just end up as a simple fevered night. " I continued. From the looks of it, she already knew what I was trying to say. Is this how young women act like nowadays? I can't seem to keep up with the younger generations anymore.

"Why are you... " She trailed. "being so kind?"

"Oh honey, I'm not kind. I intended to sleep with you. But I'm not really one to force myself on a girl that looks ready to cry even when she said she wants it." I was exasperated. I didn't go to a bar to end up being the counselor of a distraught young woman who doesn't know what she actually wants.

'This is getting nowhere.' I thought.

"I'm Nic. What's your name?" I asked.

"Mitchell. You can call me Mitch. " Her voice was soft.

"If you're calm now, I can call a taxi for you to get home." I offered.

"Mister Nic? I'm sorry... I'm calm now... we can do it." I knew which 'it' she was referring to.

I contemplated a bit conflicted. I was feeling a little lustful. So I beckoned her to come and sat her on my lap. As gently as I could I kissed her. She doesn't seem to know what to do, so with all my patience, I coaxed her lips to move with mine.

'At least she knew how to breath through her nose.' I thought.

When we parted lips, our foreheads were resting on each other. My hands were on her waist to support her weight. I gazed into her eyes and I remembered the beauty I saw in the dancefloor earlier before her angelic demeanor vanished and revealed her nervous wreck personality.

"We won't do it." I said. "This is enough."

I stole another peck and gestured that I wanted to get up.

"I already payed for an overnight stay in the room. If you're not leaving, I am." I gathered my things, not bothered by her silence. "Good night, angel."

I waved goodbye and left the room without waiting for her response.
