Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 : Trouble Brewing

Drew made sure Skyler took a warm bath and got into bed safely. He watched her for a bit, to ensure she fell asleep fine, before going to his own room to retire for the night. He had not known Skyler danced, but now that he did, he would help her find a way to practice it safely. However, he would not solve all her problems and deliver it on a sparkly platter for her as he did not want to spoil her but he would assist whenever she decides to ask him. Life was full of ups and downs after all and one needed to learn to deal with them, work around them or find a way to adapt. In Skyler's case, he could see she would rather be independent. However, since she took on too much all in one go and while she was still reeling in shock from a sudden loss it probably took its toll on her.

That aside, all he could do as her stand-in guardian was ensure she still did her homework for her temporary home schooling and update the school of when she could possibly return to a physical classroom. Doing all this was very new to him so he was doing his best albeit a bit overwhelmed.

The following days Drew noted with a smile that Skyler, albeit still feeling down, did her best to take her medications with at least two meals a day. This was enough to assure him she was trying and he decided to let up a little on his strict surveillance of her. However, he still made sure to be nearby as she was still in need of help with her newly known condition.

Skyler walked out of her room after successfully completing a bit of homework. She caught Drew's attention who had been lounging comfortably on the living room's sofa opposite her room. He got up and accompanied her knowingly. This new routine walk was advised by him after all to be incorporated into her daily routine so she could learn when she was about to pass out, see what she could do to catch herself once she could tell an attack was coming.

Her mind drifted as they walked around the house. Everything that had happened so far still felt like a dream. It all happened so quickly and felt like it was merging together in her mind. Within the span of 2 months, her father had passed on, she was forced to move out of her apartment (though that was mainly due to her own incapability of coping with her loss), diagnosed with an incurable illness, and now, living with two good-looking males in a huge house.

How rich was Drew anyways? She stared at him who was monitoring her while looking at his ipad. Apparently doctors earned a lot, even as a private freelance one. Putting that aside, she was not sure how to feel about it all now that she was starting to come out of her daze and take in her surroundings.

Suddenly, her legs gave out below her, but just before her vision turned completely dark, she caught sight of an arm struck out in front of her.

Drew had noticed right away, the moment her knee buckled and caught her with one arm as his other hand held his ipad. Placing his ipad down on the floor, he lifted up the sleeping girl effortlessly, and brought her to the sofa, arranging her nicely on it so she could wake up in a good position. He sat on the armchair diagonally across from the sofa she laid on and pondered. She was either distracted thus not making progress on noticing when her condition would flare up, or it was just not possible to know in her case. Either way, it was too early to say. He wanted to wait a bit more before they decide on their next option.

She had on multiple occasions passed out in an upright position. This truly scared him for it could have ended badly had he not been there to catch her. She could have hit her head hard, or break a bone or two if she fell onto a sharp surface with no way of using her limbs to defend nor hold herself up.

Skyler soon came to and was a bit confused at first, rubbing the drowsiness out of her eyes, but when she slowly recalled what happened she let out a sigh. Her thoughts were distracting her, how does that work again? She had enough for today, bed sounded good even though that was all she had been seeing lately.

Drew watched her get up and head in the direction of her room.

"Don't give up alright? You're doing good." He encouraged her.

She threw a small smile his way before closing the door behind her.

Still not knowing what to say to her childhood best friend and the only other person she could undoubtedly rely on had passed, Skyler found herself feeling immensely lost. Why were these people taking such good care of her? She knew her father was in a pretty high position, he was the CEO's secretary but still. What if they had something to do with his death?

... what was she thinking? Probably watched too much of those Korean dramas her father liked watching.

While watching those dramas, he would often comment that a person should not do that and do so and so instead to lead a better life, asking if she heard his life lesson when she did not reply. She would often roll her eyes at him and grunt out a reply when he did so, as he would do so multiple times within an episode.

How she missed him now.

He had been overseas with his boss for a month and was supposed to return home that day when she got that call from the hospital. He never made it home.

She did not sleep well that night.

The following day, a determined Skyler made progress with the tell tale signs of when she was about to pass out. A week went by and she got to the point where she could figure out when to sit before she passed out. Drew was very happy with her progress and decided she could go back to school with him and Jose taking turns to sit in with her since there was no one else they could ask to do it. Skyler was not close with anyone in her class.

On the 2nd day she resumed going to school, Skyler texted Xavier to update him on what was going on with her vaguely but not telling him the full story yet.

'Sky can u pls tell me whr the hell are you!? I'm about to send a report for a missing person.' (sent 30 minutes ago)

'Hey Xav sorry I was quite sick for a while, but I'm fine now.'

'Quite sick?? Whr u at?'

'I'm fine now, I'm in school right now but still won't be back to dance just yet.'

'.. ok. You're not hiding something from me are you?'

She did not reply after that.

Over the next month, step by step they attended one class a day and slowly increased to multiple classes once she adapted and learned how to manage herself without their help. Her classmates stared in awe at both her 'bodyguards' when they stayed next to her in class to monitor her, with the teacher's knowledge of course. This made Skyler highly uncomfortable with the unwanted attention but there was nothing she could do about it, thus ignoring them to the best of her abilities.

There were times when anxiety consumed her when they would travel into crowds during lunch period, turning her limbs cold when she thought she could not breathe. When this happened she would run off and hide in a place she would feel secure in, leaving the person who was monitoring her behind.

Strangely enough, it was during Jose's watch most of the time and when he was not paying attention. When he finally did, he would have to find her, and sometimes that took up to an hour. There were times when he gave up and just went home, only to be scolded by Drew when Skyler texted him for help and he found Jose without her by his side.

The younger male's frustrations climbed each time Skyler ran off, and he decided it was time to teach her a lesson his way. Drew was being too gentle. It appeared someone needed to give her a wake up call. A hard lesson, one that she would never forget.

Jose had noticed a guy their age hanging around them lately when they were on school grounds, always observing them when her Narcolepsy was triggered, stealing glances at Skyler. He always tried getting close to her whenever she slumped over, trying to be 'helpful' and glared at Jose when he immediately caught her and held her up. He thought Jose was not looking, however, Jose was just watching from a different angle via various reflections like the mirrors around school or his phone and had seen the dirty look the weird guy had given him thus, very aware of what his intentions might be.

Jose smirked. There was his opportunity.
