When it was high enough, they began the careful operation of sliding the cart under. Careful, precise manoeuvres. Even without the weapons on hand to construct a siege, they had the knowledge and experience to see them constructed on the fly.
The battering ram was then fixed into place. More beams, more lumber, more nails, and the whole thing was set together. Perfectly rigid, more than strong enough for at least a single charge.
"Well?" General Blackthorn asked of King Patrick, rather enjoying his silence.
"You've got some capable men," Oliver said, impressed. "With the benefits of the hill, and a good controlled charge, it wouldn't surprise me to see this battering ram bear those gates open."
