Chapter 4 - CHAPTER FOUR: CORWYN III

Corwyn Ambers - III

Corwyn hummed as he inspected himself in his bathroom mirror. His eyes scanned his form, musculature being emphasized by his tight black t-shirt, the slightly formal-informal cargo pants that he had tucked into his sole pair of shoes besides his sabatons, thick steel toed combat boots.

It wasn't by any means something that he'd like to wear to a date, but it really was all he had on hand. He made a bit of a mistake by setting the date tomorrow, giving neither him nor Ruby any time to prepare; but that was how the cookie crumbled.

'Why do I feel like Ruby would either love or hate that idiom?' Corwyn tried to divine the girl's reaction, before putting it up to a coin flip and deciding to not care either way. He returned his attention to the date's preparation, to which he felt he'd both underprepared and over prepared in a paradox of a teen doubting themselves on their first date.

With a comb he cleanly smoothed out one last bit of hair before giving himself a glance over for the nth time, before turning his attention to one of his white boards. He'd run out of room on the main one which held important scheduling information, dietary stuff, and a whole host of other important things he didn't want to erase. So, he'd gone out to purchase another board, which ended up being two boards due to him stumbling on a sale.

'What's my budget for this date…' Corwyn looked over his budget. He obtained around forty-five thousand lien a year from the Government, and he used to work a few odd jobs involving repairing appliances and other electronic goods netting him a decent amount of pocket money; which usually all found itself being reinvested into school, weapons, and the most egregious of spenders; Dust.

Dust had been practically entirely cut out of his budget recently; he had no need for repairs with his Semblance making his weapons and armor practically unbreakable and inviolable to physics.

He'd had to spend a bit of money to purchase a disgustingly expensive book for the finals in Biology and another book for Grimm Studies annoyingly enough. Honestly, a hundred and twenty-five lien for a book was highway robbery. Regardless, he was actually, for the first time in his life; within the orange of a total balance of three-thousand lien within his bank account.

'That'd only get bigger as I don't spend nearly as much anymore. Fuck, if I had my semblances at the start of Signal, I'd be swimming with cash.' When he turned Eighteen during the summer months in waiting if he got accepted or denied by Beacon Academy, his government support would be cut, and he'd be expected to sink or swim effectively. He'd easily be capable of swimming with his current loadout, but Before Transmigration Corwyn would have been struggling; he simply didn't have the resources to be a devastating force on the battlefield against Grimm.

'I'd likely have fallen into the civil services sector.' Effectively just being a glorified police running on a string budget capturing Aura Enhanced criminals.

Now, the largest expenditure he was facing was bills for electricity, boarding, and food. Which were steadily becoming manageable now that he didn't have to worry about investing massive amounts of his budget to purchase Dust.

'...should I treat myself?'

It felt like a mythical step forward in the life of Corwyn Ambers; the ability to spend money frivolously had never been something he exactly envied his fellow classmates for. Corwyn Ambers didn't really understand and had never had any of the things that the Earth Born Corwyn understood others had.

The effective child-soldier never touched a video game, had only watched a scant few movies and television shows to which were often watched with his Foster Family. His hobbies and interests were entirely Huntsman focused, he had exceptionally few friends throughout his life, and ultimately Corwyn came to the realization that he didn't have any hobbies.

The Earthen Corwyn had gotten caught up within the excitement of having a Semblance that functioned like magic, how he could utterly shatter human records of weight lifting, how his body was constantly improving, and he was growing to become greater with every bit of sweat that dripped off his body. For a man who'd been desensitized to the formerly mentioned things, his new life as Corwyn Ambers was a breath of fresh air that felt like it'd never fade away.

Corwyn The Amalgam took a good look at both his lives and studied both of their 'hobbies'.

Earthen Corwyn liked to write. He liked stories, he liked to read, he enjoyed the occasional video game. Life to him was work, study, destress, repeat. It was a cycle that worked for the teen of eighteen as he never felt the desire to suddenly wake up from his grind and start to explore the world.

Remnant Corwyn meanwhile remembered being sent to Art Class and found he really enjoyed drawing anatomy. He was a talent in the artistry of sketching, drawing, perspective and proportionalism; to which his single-minded desire focused down towards him drawing anatomical images of Grimm during classes and down time to further his knowledge of potential weak points. It never really was a hobby to Corwyn, as he figured it was just another way to study and learn about the Grimm. Just another aspect to grind down; but looking back.

He really enjoyed those moments.

Corwyn looked over to his drawing kit he'd been given by the Art Teacher, and to his shame, Corwyn realized he'd forgotten her name. He pulled it out and then drew out a number of his Art books, finding several of his older first-time sketches filled with notes and details surrounding each and every Grimm he drew, listing out weakness and dangers on every bit of the Grimm.

His mind drifted back to his nearing date with Ruby, and he figured he'd do something a bit special to both him and her. Instead of the stereotypical restaurant date, he figured something more personal, and fun would be rather fun. He picked up his art kit and then started to organize his kitchen. He found a few lunch boxes and then further picked up an ice cooler before he started to pack for a picnic. As he was making several sandwiches, his mouth mumbling the exact nutritional and calorie amount he was adding to each sandwich; Corwyn realized he had another hobby he'd never even realized he had. Cooking.

A laugh left his mouth as he stopped counting the calories and instead just enjoyed the process, a soft smile on his face as he worked through the ingredients, slowing down slightly and finding him relaxing. With sandwiches, fruit, beverages, vegetarian wraps, and an assortment of other healthy but nutritious goods packed.

Corwyn grabbed Malleus from where it was leaning against the wall and wrapped the entire spread around its head, tying up a thick bag of food and arresting it to the neck of the weapon. He then loaded up his cooler with ice, a few cans of sprite and ginger ale adjacent drinks -his favored drink of celebration besides cranberry juice- a jug of cranberry juice, before he then packed it all up with a satisfied air of success. He grabbed his school bag, emptied it, before tossing inside his entire art kit, before he then zipped it up and gave himself one last refresher in the bathroom.

Popping a mint, Corwyn strode out of his dorm, ready to take a girl on a date.
