Chapter 16 - 16. Petunia

"GET AWAY FROM ME," Raven bellowed, pushing him away from her as her eyes snapped open. Dorian staggered backward as he stared back into her dark eyes. A loud shatter occurred as energy expelled from her body, and the glass shattered into pieces. The pieces cut through the air. Raven quieted down, her eyes not leaving Dorian as he stared at her in shock. Not understanding what he had experienced. The binds around her wrists loosened. Stumbling from the table, the glass that had fallen on her fell to the ground.

CROAK

CROAK

The bird sat in the tree, staring at them.

'Death,' she thought.

Raven faced Dorian, who stood there watching her as she walked toward him. Glaring at him, she stopped in front of him.

"Give me time, I am new to this; I need space to find it." Pulling the chain from her neck, she slammed it into his chest. "I never believed the witches when they told me you were a monster. When I first heard the story of the cursed boy, I thought, what had happened that made him so? Monsters aren't born; they are made, and when I heard that my ancestors were the ones to curse you, I thought maybe I could help you remove it, but now I believe every word they told me. I told you I would break the curse. Centuries have passed since those Graverose witches; times have changed, and we have changed. We believe in righting a wrong my mother thought to be the right thing, but you have distorted what I believed to be right. But you made that choice for me," she told him, retrieving her hand as the chain fell to his feet.

"If your family had never cursed me, or even if they had removed the curse, I never would have looked for you. I found one of your ancestors and asked her to remove the curse, but she would not."

"So you killed her," she spat at him. Having had enough of him and his threats. Raven left the greenhouse, leaving Dorian's property and making sure to get out of this side of the woods, not wanting a run-in with the wolves. Raven took a quick shower, cleaning herself of the memories of what had just transpired before heading toward the diner. Only to bump into Maura.

Maura was standing across the street, watching her. Raven offered a quick smile before hurrying away, preferring not to engage with her. "He is exactly like we said, isn't he?" Maura called out, halting Raven in her tracks. She shook her head at the woman. "No, he is exactly who I thought he was," she told Maura. "Raven, your magic has still not developed, but you are strong," Maura told her, placing her hand on Raven's arm. Her magic ran through her not liking the touch. "Please let go of my arm," Raven said, cutting off all the calmness from Maura. Maura instantly dropped her hand from Raven.

"I can handle it myself," she told Maura.

"I do not look like it."

"You do not know me at all."

"You are wrong, Raven; we know everything about your family."

"Yes, you know my family," Raven stepped closer to Maura; Raven's eyes were dark. "But you do not know me," she told her. "I have made my decision as to whom I choose to help," Raven informed her.

"And who did you pick?" Maura questioned her, not happy.

Raven spared one glance before stepping around the woman, leaving her in her tracks before entering the diner.

Jameson stopped in his tracks, placing his stuff in the trunk, his eyes falling on Raven a couple of feet away from him talking with Maura, a witch. "It has started, hasn't it?"

Staring at Bobby beside him, he said, "If she decides to help the witches, a war is coming."

"You underestimate her."

"I hope you are right," Jameson told Bobby as their attention went back to the girl, only to see her entering the diner.
