STARDUST DREAMERS

Hoppy Solis has forgotten what it feels like to hope. He lives on Aethon Station, a cold metal world where his parents died years ago and his work as a mechanic fills the hours but leaves him empty. His dreams have stopped coming. There is nothing waiting for him when he closes his eyes. Then one night, something changes. He opens his eyes to Cottonia, a planet made of clouds and starlight where the air is sweet and small creatures called Fluffbunnies have no fear of strangers. He meets Monna, a Stargazer who tells him he is Tide-touched, one of the few who can enter the dream worlds through sleep. She shows him an Ember of Extinction, a fragment of light from a dead star that holds a memory. When he reaches for it, the Ember settles in his chest. It is the first warmth he has felt in years. He could stay on Cottonia, but a Gate calls him forward. He steps through, and the journey begins. The dream worlds are vast, each one a memory of a star that once lived. At Starburst Carnival, the Memory Game shows him something he had forgotten from his childhood, drawings he painted over long ago. In Jumblewood, a forest of wooden blocks and ribbon streams, the Toyfolk are cracking and fading. Hoppy, a mechanic who has spent his life fixing things, discovers he can mend them. His hands make things whole. At Siren's Deep, an ocean of glowing water, the Singers keep the songs of their dead star. Beneath the waves, fading songs wait for someone to carry them. Hoppy goes down into the darkness, and hundreds of songs come to him, settling into his chest where a pattern is forming. The Maker's Touch, a Sigil that grows with every Ember he collects. He travels to Melodia, where every object makes a sound and the ground is a keyboard waiting for footsteps. He reaches Starlight Sanctuary, where the oldest Embers are kept, and learns that Dreamers exist to carry light from one world to another. A hidden planet calls to him, protected by a being called the Forgotten, where he faces a trial of memory and kindness and discovers what it means to share warmth without losing it. Through it all, Hoppy meets creatures who change him. Jester, who welcomes Dreamers with a lantern and a laugh. Tumble, who drops things and picks them up and makes patterns that never last. Echo, who keeps sounds that would otherwise be lost. Pippin and the Toyfolk, who learn that mending is as important as making. Lyra and the Singers, who teach him that songs are memories and memories are songs. Hoppy begins as someone who has closed himself off from connection. He has stopped drawing. He has stopped dreaming. He has stopped feeling. But the dream worlds pull him in. They show him what he has forgotten. They give him songs to carry, cracks to mend, lights to share. He learns that opening himself to others does not mean he will lose himself. The warmth he carries grows when he gives it away. He learns that dreams are not nonsense. They are spaces where we can rediscover what makes us feel alive. By the end, Hoppy has visited six planets, collected dozens of Embers, formed his first Sigil, and helped creatures who had forgotten how to be whole remember what they were. He returns to the real world for a brief moment, long enough to see his cold room differently and know he carries warmth inside him now. He sleeps again, and a new Gate appears.
