Global Cultivation: Heaven's Awakening
Jane Williams is seventeen, six-foot-two, built like a door, and named after no one in particular because his parents died in a plane crash before they got around to changing it.
He is not remarkable in any way that Maplewood High School has a category for. He gets Cs in everything except biology, shows up late on Tuesdays, and keeps notebooks filled with symbols no one recognizes.
He is also quietly the most dangerous person in the state.
Two years ago, Jane found a glowing object in his backyard and made the mistake of touching it. What poured into him was not magic, not a curse, and not a blessing. It was memory, the entire accumulated knowledge of Fuxi, the first of the Three Sovereigns, the mythological architect of civilization, a being so old that the world he shaped had long since forgotten his name. Cultivation. Qi theory. The architecture of heaven and earth. All of it, compressed into the mind of a thirteen year old boy in the suburbs of Ohio.
Jane has been quietly preparing ever since, practicing in his backyard before dawn, carving his qi pathways open one painful session at a time, waiting for the day Fuxi's memories told him was coming.
On a Tuesday in October of his sophomore year, the sky turns red at noon, and he finds out.
